as all this comes to an end

For the past few days the Ancient Feminine Wisdom deck has been on my mind, so while I was cleaning this evening I pulled it out. These cards are so beautifully illustrated with goddesses and heroines of Greek mythology. I decided to pull a card, asking for insight that would be relevant to everyone.

I pulled Demeter, which fittingly says at the bottom, “Letting Go”. This card is gorgeous, illustrated with the Goddess standing in a field of grain. She is an Earth goddess and is often linked with the cycles of the season’s… birth, growth, death and rebirth. She is the bringer of the winter and summer. She is the goddess of the harvest. And because of her connection to Persephone, her daughter… she represents the feelings of loss, grief and letting go.

Demeter is a reminder to us to let go of what has weighed us down this past year. It is time to let go of the worn out thoughts and feelings, the perceived failures and heartaches. It is time to walk away from the pain and disappointment and know that a new year is upon us… the wheel is beginning to turn again and a new opportunity is coming for you.

The New Year is a time of starting new projects, adapting new ideas and philosophies. It’s a time to begin doing things you have felt you should do all year, but didn’t have the courage to. Because we all respond to cycles and changes, this is the perfect time of year to allow yourself to make a shift in thinking.

Instead of just making a list of new years resolutions… also make a list of all things you want to let go of. Take your list of goals, dreams and resolutions and burn a pure white candle over them as a prayer for Divine assistance… and in that candles flame light the paper with all the things you are letting go of… and release them. Cast their ashes to the wind. This is a symbolic gesture of letting go of the old and manifesting the new.

dancing with the unknown

This strange and sinking feeling as come over me tonight. It bubbles up from the deep. It settles into me in this empty room. Dismantling my sacred space has been hard to stomach. Knowing that I will leave the magic that lives here is hard to deal with, though I know that the next thing will be moving and amazing… and time will fly by.

My anticipation, my excitement and fears are swirling around me. They cling tightly, like a velvet cloak in the wildness of the wind. I touch them to my face, eyes closed, listening attentively. What last message do you have for me? What can you say before I cast myself into the unknown?

I count my memories and blessings by candlelight. I send love to the next step over a warm cup of tea. These last few nights I have been gentle with my spirit… tacking in each step and breath… preserving it safely for when I need it most.

The big, looming beast, New York City is waiting for me. She shall be my teacher and lover. Though I don’t know what is next there… what that city holds for me, I am ready for it. I am excited to have another chance to grow and to be inspired. I want to take in every moment… one step closer to my dreams!

let us pray

Many people find prayer as comforting and intimate way to connect with the source and often times when people feel lost, desperate and at their wits end they will turn to prayer. I pray daily because it allows me to connect to the Universe as well as my inner place of wisdom. Prayer is like meditation; it’s a time to be still. 

I have talked to many people who view prayer as a way of pleading with God or the creator to change something unfortunate in their lives or to allow them to have something that they feel is missing. This approach to prayer is unsettling to me because it takes the control out of your hands and puts it into the hands of someone/something else. Prayer is meant to empower us.

I once had a friend tell me that the word “hope” is viewed by the Buddhist as a negative word because it implies that something might not happen. I found that to be a fascinating concept because I saw that many people pray because they hope it will create a change. I think that prayer is much more powerful when you intend what you’re praying for. Don’t ask that something happen, intend that it will happen, pull it into reality.

When you sit down to have a conversation with the Universe, don’t desperately throw your hands up and beg for mercy… this is your life and your experience and the Universe can only do what you ask it, so you must be firm and clear in your asking! The key is to realize that you are the one in control, you manifest your reality, you have the ability to shape and form the architecture of it. You are not a victim to the whims of some being in the sky…

I have found that prayer is much more powerful as a form of giving thanks to the universe for what you have already begun to consciously manifest. You put the intention out there, asking for the Universe to partner with you to bring in into reality and then you give a prayer of thanks for that partnership. Ask that the Universe help this intention manifest in the best way possible, as the Universe has a vantage point… the bigger picture is much more clear to Spirit. 

Take this approach with your daily prayer with at least one issue and see what happens. For example: Instead of praying, “God I ask for you to bring money and security into my life, so that I can feel safe and protected. Please help me in my time of need.” Approach it as an affirmation, saying it in the now, “I have financial security, I am safe and protected by the Universe. I have everything I want and need, when I want and need it.” …then say a prayer of thanks because when you take the lead the Universe can do nothing but follow!

whats your bodies story

Your body is constantly speaking to you. Your body is the story of your beliefs and ideas about yourself and the world around you. Whatever state you find yourself in physically is a reflection of those beliefs and ideas, whether it is a disease, an ache or pain, accident or temporary illness.

You are composed of many layers of energy, all vibrating at different rates. These layers carry the unique makeup of your being and the densest part of your being is your body itself. The state of your health is a type of historical account of your energy, meaning that your illness or ailment began somewhere else in your energetic layers.

Begin to listen to your body, listen to the unique language by which it speaks to you. The aces and pains you have been experiencing, the diseases you have been diagnosed with, the accidents that you have had… are all ways by which your higher self works to get your attention. If you listen to these messages you will be able to change your health and in turn change your life!

There are two wonderful books, which I have referred to time and time again by Louise Hay. Heal Your Body, is the fist one, which is a type of dictionary that you can look up your illness and read the symbolic meaning of it… its wonderful for understanding what message your body has for you. The other book is called Heal Your Life, and it teaches you how to heal your life, by understanding your body.

It’s not always easy to make changes by listening to the message you body tells you and it’s not always easy to accept that you, on some level created this illness. The first step is forgiveness. Letting go and releasing feelings of guilt, anger and pain. This will release many negative energies from your body. The second step is to replace the illness with something, generally a feeling of love is the exact energy needed.

Take time to sit in stillness and meditation, fill yourself with beautiful white light and tell yourself repeatedly, “I love you and accept you.” Remember you are a perfect reflection of the divine. Our natural state of being is one of good health and abundance. If you devote time to what feeds your energy and inspires you, then you will begin to feel better, inside and out.
