The Gypsy’s Ticks for Spiritual Cleansing and Protection: Jack-O-Lanterns

It’s my favorite time of year…Halloween! I’m sure you’ve felt the chill of an unseen visitor or the faint smell of perfume out of nowhere or maybe you’ve heard a few raps on the attic door as you passed by. Don’t be surprised, it’s Halloween the traditional time when the veil between this world and the world beyond is at it’s thinnest! Now the spirits of those who have passed are free to roam among us!

Have you ever wondered why we dress up on Halloween? Or maybe why we light Jack-O-Lanterns? It’s very simple really; these are tools of protecting ourselves from the otherworldly visitors. We wear mask so that the living and the dead can walk freely among each other without detection. We light the Jack-O-Lantern for safety.

The Jack-O-Lantern is an ancient tool of spiritual protection from ghost, demons, evil and harm. The Celts would carve gnarly faces into gourds, vegetables and pumpkins as a way to scare off anything that went bump in the night.

So if you are feeling particularly spooked this Halloween, and you want to ward off a few unwelcomed guest… carve some fancy pumpkins with toothy grins and twisted smiles. Light a black candle to place in the center and say this little prayer:

“Spirits roaming on Halloween Night,

Unwanted guest that give a fight,

I summon the protection of the Jack-O-Lantern’s light,

Ward off all evil that may elude my sight.”

Happy Halloween!!

  1. Happy Halloween my Friend, I Hope it was a Memorable one? We had a wonderful time in preparation for all of our Halloween Activities and Traditions. The only thing that put a damper on Halloween Night for us was that our Son’s Cottage, which sits behind our Main House had a robbery that Night while he was at work. With so many people coming and going off the property Trick-Or-Treating and wearing masks, it was a perfect opportunity for a criminal to pass un-noticed, so we didn’t realize we’d been robbed until much later in the Evening when The Son got Home from his 2nd Shift. Alas, I guess my scary Jack-O-Lanterns didn’t scare off that particular Evil that Night. *Le Sigh* It makes me very angry, but then again, I know that what goes around comes around so the Thief will have bad Karma come against them.

    • Happy Halloween my bohemian friend!! Mine was great. I spent a lot of my Halloween weekend doing readings… it was a blast connecting with so many people and being part of great halloween parties!! I’m sorry to hear about the robbery. That is never something that heals easy. I hope that there wasn’t too much damage and things stolen. I’m sure your Jack-O-Lanterns had very scary faces… they just need a little more enchantment! I’m sending you and yours lots of love and good vibes.

So happy to hear from you :-)
