Oracle Deck Review: Le Petit Lenormand Eclectique

The independent artist movement has sent a surge of energy through the cartomancy community, igniting people’s creativity. We are seeing far more independently published decks than ever before, in part because of technology, but at the heart of this movement are people filling the gap in what’s being offered and what’s wanted!

One such deck is Le Petit Lenormand Eclectique. Yet another vision from Edmund Zebrowski, creator of the Day of the Dead Lenormand. This was a collaborative effort between 32 artists to create a new kind of deck.

Each person was entrusted with the task of creating their vision of the card assigned to them. What resulted is a strangely exciting, and refreshing deck… composed of collages, original drawings, paintings, photographs and ephemera. Each card comes together to make a cohesive deck that reads with ease.

I was fortunate enough to be a part of the Eclectique project. I was assigned the interesting and controversial Whip card. My vision began with images of old Gibson girls, with their sexual undertones and subtle dominance. I wanted to create something that paid homage to traditional Lenormand images, with an infusion of new life!

I’m proud of the results, though it didn’t win everyone over easily!  You will find in the Lenormand community very die-hard traditionalist, and I respect that! Though, I tend to rock the boat a bit and encourage people to challenge their views and think outside the box. In Le Petit Lenormand Eclectique, the Whip seems to sit nicely among the other characters… and convey it’s intended meaning clearly. 

Honestly, as a whole this deck is very convincing. Some of the images are unexpected, and not what I would have picked, but the end result is beautiful, insightful and cohesive. Plus, the guidebook written by Helen Riding is a tiny wealth of information.

The whole package is on point. With vibrant colors, decent cardstock and a precious muslin bag for housing the deck, you can’t go wrong. These cards are priced affordably for beginners to easily purchase a deck and begin their Lenormand journey!

Buy a deck, support the movement of indie artist/authors, begin your Lenormand studies and drink in the beauty. 

Personal Reading with the Tattered Nomad Oracle for 2013

Things have been so exciting here in Denver, and I’m still getting settled. I wanted to layout a few cards on New Years Eve to look ahead for 2013, but I haven’t had the chance until today. So here is a brief reading highlighting the key themes of my 2013! 

Beginning with the corners:

(Book + Child) it seems that a new project is underway involving education, which makes sense since I just moved to Denver for a new job to further my education. I also see this as the beginning of a new book or writing project, which is one of my goals for this year! Moving on (Heart + Clover) there is a lot of emotional attachments that are progressing quickly in a positive direction. This makes sense to me already!

Looking at the crossing cards:

(Fox + Man + Woman) At first I was confused by this because I didn’t see myself as the man in the spread, I thought maybe this was my partner, which is still a possibility as he works with and has a lot of female friends. Maybe she is being deceptive? Or they are saving-face about something? But looking at this combination further I see this as a new opportunity in career for me. I will be connecting with a woman (story of my life) who will help me. If we knight from the fox we get the Child and Clover, so it sounds like this woman helps move a new project along very quickly! 

(Letter + Man + Clouds) A letter/email is coming from a man that is causing confusion. I instantly see this as my father. It’s very likely that if he contacts me it will be via some written form of communication. And, knighting from the Letter (Heart + Child) is a definite indicator that this is my father.

Looking at the Diagonals:

(Book + Man + Child) We have another indicator of a new educational opportunity for myself. But, if we knight from the book there seems to be some confusion about this new opportunity, or in the case of this new job, apprehension (Clouds). Knighting in the other direction reiterates the Woman who is being some sort of guide and advocate. (Heart + Man + Clover) is another indicator of things progressing fast with a love connection, but when I knight from the heart there is another story being told. Knighting from the Heart shows an emotional letter from a man that also involves a woman, who could possibly be my mother. 

Seems like there are some interesting things happening in 2013. I will have to flip a few more cards as time goes on to get a better picture. Feel free to leave your interpretation as well!

Poets, Legends, Priest of Nothing

I think everyone needs someone or thing that keeps them inspired and really motivates them to follow their dreams. That person for me is Stevie Nicks. She is one of the many magical, fairy Godmothers that I look up to in my life and she has been for a very long time.

Her timeless, mystical and emotive persona has become something very familiar to me over the years. As a little kid I can remember being totally enthralled by her songs and thinking how she so eloquently put into words the things that live in my imagination and spirit.

The many songs that she has penned and performed solo and as the lead singer of Fleetwood Mac have become staples on my ipod and they have been the energy behind so many journal entries, projects and writing of my own.

I’ve known my entire life that I came here to be a storyteller. I tell stories with my cards, I tell stories with my garments, I tell stories with my poems and songs. Ms. Nicks has given me the courage to embrace my place as a storyteller.

So let me ask, “What story are you telling? ”

 

Stevie Nicks has been pulling us into her little world since the 70s and decade after decade she has given us wonderful music.

Here is my favorite version of Edge of Seventeen… such a dark and moody song that really energizes me.

And here is a wonderful song from her MUST HAVE new album IN YOUR DREAMS! Its called Annabel Lee, from the poem by Edgar Allen Poe.

Spiritual Message/ Update June 3

Dear Friends,

I have been so eager to write to all of you, but my schedule has been so full that its just been too difficult. I have also been phoneless for a week, because someone stole my new phone. If you have been trying to call me, please know that I haven’t been ignoring you, I just don’t have my phone.  Let me share a few updates with you and a spiritual message.

  • I would like to say again, my phone was stolen. I will still have the same number, but my stolen phone hasn’t been “turned off” yet because we were trying to locate it before replacing it. If you’ve tried to contact me, and either found that the call wasn’t going through or that I haven’t returned your call or answered, no fears I just haven’t had a phone. I should be getting one in the next few days… until then you may contact me via email. (Please send me an email if you’ve tried to contact me and weren’t able to).
  • I have mentioned before and it bears repeating, I will be Leaving for London, UK on June 21st, and I will be gone for 10 weeks. In that time I will still be doing readings for those of you here in the US, but it will take a little more strategic planning. I will be doing my readings either as emails or through a skype session. If you are unfamiliar with skype, it is a free, online program that allows you to create an account so that you may video chat with anyone, anywhere… as long as you have a camera, computer and an account. It would be best to email me from June 21st-September 1st to set up appointments, etc.
  • I will be offering a 10% discount on all half hour phone readings until the 17th of June, so feel free to set up a session.
  • My schedule shall be freeing up for the next few weeks, which will allow me to take on more readings. You may set up in-person or phone sessions, either half hour or hour long readings. Call or email for availability and I will work you in. (I want to take care of as many sessions as I can before I leave for London).
  • Remember that Psychic Saturday is June 11th (the second Saturday of every month) and there will be 5 15-minute sessions available for $15 each. First come fist serve, this is the perfect opportunity to get those 2 or 3 burning questions answered in between full sessions.
  • September 17th I would like to have another Gypsy Tea Party for those of you who would like to learn about tealeaf reading. The Gypsy Tea Party will be held during High Tea at a tearoom, in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area. It will be an intimate group setting, filled with learning, readings and fun. If interested let me know… more details to come.

Spiritual Message:

Stop telling yourself that there is no time for dreaming. I want you to remember that there is always something beautiful to be found, no matter how dark and dismal things may seem. You have to know that dreams can come alive in the dark.

If you have been working toward a goal or dreaming up some huge, crazy dream, then get ready because dreams are about to come true. The one thing I want you to remember is that it is your right to have everything you want…. All the things that build you up, that make you feel whole, spiritual and vibrant are meant to be yours. Do not deny yourself of that.

Happiness is no longer somewhere in the distance. Respect your path and spirit and honor the wisdom that lives inside of you. When you embrace the inner callings of your soul, you open a treasure trove of possibilities. What has been on your mind will now come into you life… so stop the worries! Bring only goodness in.

Rejoice in the present reality, as possibilities are in the works of becoming real. Keep calling to your dreams and they will float softly to you. Now is the time and you have all the magic in the universe at your fingertips.

Affirm: “I can dream my biggest dreams, and I have the right to attain everyone of them. Each day I wake a new dream is made reality…. And I am grateful for it!”

Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost

I was moved today when I read this quote by JRR Tolken. There is something powerful in that line. “Not all those who wander are lost.” It gives me this settled feeling, knowing that though the road may be uncertain and at times I have no idea whats next… I’m not lost… Just a nomad. Lately I have been feeling a little anxious and sort of in the dark, but I gently remind myself that I must dance with it all.

The Queen of Wands fell out of the deck as i was shuffling the cards to ask about “What My True Purpose Is”. Her key word is “Inspiration” and I can hear her saying to me, “Child let go and be inspired. Walk your life in living color and let go of the fear and the doubt. Be inspired, be royal, be grand and be eccentric. Today is a journey separate from tomorrow… so take it all in now! No more waiting.”

I have to let go of the idea that something is coming, that the day will finally arrive when I have enough money or enough time or enough talent or enough experience or enough love… its not wort the wait any longer. I am enough, you are enough and we are enough. There is nothing in this world we can’t do or have. We are entitled to all the riches of the world and unless we know that and unless  we live every moment feeling that… it will never come.

I have come to realize that destiny is like the wind, we can either let it blow through us, we can harnest it and use it, some of us just need to dance with it and at times you run and hide from it. I want to dance with it. I want the wind to blow with me, through me and all around me. I want it to lift me up and take me away. I am spreading my wings and flying, even if I know not where I am going… I know that I will never be lost.

Lets open our eyes and see life as a magnificent ball and each of us will dress in our finery and dance and sing. We will feast on the most delightful meals and we will partake in the most exciting events. We will live on the edge of the exotic and surreal. We may be kings and queens of nothing… but we are royal non the less. Lets wear velvet and gold. Lets stand out amongst the gray. Lets shine brighter than all the stars in the sky. lets chase away the night. Lets forget about fear and doubt and know that we hold in our hands the rarest and most precious gems of the Universe.

Monthly Tarot Card: The Star

The Star is one of the most brilliant cards in the Major Arcana of the tarot deck; It’s suck a powerful card and its one of my favorite. I know when this card shows up it’s a time of new energy and a time of new beginnings. Wishes are coming true and dreams are being fulfilled.

Looking at this card you often see a woman standing half in the water and half on the land, holding a cups pouring water on the ground and back into the ocean. She is often sky-clad and serene. She reminds us that we must walk the middle ground between worlds and it’s when we let down our guard, take of the layers and really step out into the unknown that we become filled up and whole.

When I see the star I instantly feel in touch with my spirit. She clears away the worn out and the heavy allowing only light to remain. I think that we are all trying to be in the light, the light of the stars and the moon. The spiritual light that has lived inside of us since the beginning shinning free… a forgotten lantern lit once again.

When you see the star you know that it is time to rest and just be at peace. There is nothing to be afraid of; there is nothing to bring you down. Even in the darkness you can find a soft and gentle glow. A guiding light will show you the way if you just look up and trust. The Star is asking you to surrender and trust.

I believe that The Star could easily be called the soul because she is the light that lives in all of us. She is the beautiful, pure and unchanged being that resides deep inside. When you look into the mirror, look past the years, the pain and the circumstance and see the gentle light, the windows to your soul, there lives the star.

Remember to always ask the guiding light of intuition to lead the way. Just close your eyes, shut out your fears and trust. The Star is about trusting the process, trusting your intuition and trusting Spirit. It’s through trusting the process that dreams come true!

Spiritual Message/ Update April 23, 2011

Dear Friends,

The weather has been very interesting lately, as many of you know. It feels as if the earth is purging herself of negative energies and influences that have built up. I hope all of you are safe and sound and enjoying life.  Let me share a few things with you.

  • I will be doing a class on Intuition. There are two options for days and times. Either 2 hours Saturday May 28th and 2 hours Sunday May 29th or 4 hours on Saturday May 28th. I will let you decide which works best. Majority will rule. $75 for the weekend.
  • There are two specials that I will be running, but you may not combine them. 1.) If you schedule a reading from April 27th-May 4th you will get your reading for $35. So make your appointment fast before the spots fill up! 2.) If you buy 3 gift certificates you get one for free, from now until May 20th.
  • There will be a Gypsy Tea Party in June (probably the weekend of the 10th) a combination of fun, tealeaf reading and learning. You will get an individual tealeaf reading with me, plus you will join in a group to learn how to do your own readings. Should be a blast! If interested email or call.

Spiritual Message 

Remember that there is wisdom in letting go. Its time to let go of all the things that weigh you down and that no longer bring you joy. Far to often we hold onto things much longer than we need to. Once you have outgrown something you have to release it or you keep yourself from pulling into your awareness the next beautiful gift. 

I want you to look at the people, objects, feelings, beliefs and ideas that you are holding onto. Which one is worn out? Which ones have you totally outgrown? Which ones have begun to choke the life out of your new dreams, wishes and goals? 

Allow your awareness to go to the things in your life that act as black holes sucks, absorbing and totally eating away your enthusiasm and energy. Trust you intuition and know that often the first thing you go to is the right thing… start letting go there!

This message is so relevant right now. As I said before the Earth is purging itself of the old and worn out. Like her we must do the same. With the wind and the rain comes a sense of cleansing and renewal. Allow it to wash you clean. Allow the beautiful white light of the divine to enter your existence and bring healing.

Waking Among Kings and Cards

I woke up not having much sleep. It’s hard sometimes at night to actually fall asleep even if my body and mind are tired because so many things start going through my head. I’m one of those people who constantly thinks about everything and when its time for bed… that’s when my mind decided to work the hardest.

Today I pulled a few cards for insight into the day and the energy around me and what I turned over was very interesting. First card that I had was the Ace of Hearts; those aces are relentless in following me these days. Following that card the 9 of Clubs and then the King of Spades.

The ace of hearts is a powerful card because it speaks of change and new beginnings. Aces are always cards that remind us of the powerful energy of whichever suit it resides in. This is a card that speaks to me about connections with people, relationships are changing and facets of my life with others will begin to die away. This card brings with it a storm of emotions that beg me to take a crucial look at my life and to see what or whom is really necessary for me to be happy.

The 9 of spades represent challenges and the search of truth. It’s the card of the seeker or someone who should start to seek a little more. I can see this card as a sign that I am standing at the edge of something, the door to a brilliant castle… wonders and possibilities waiting, if only I would knock. The 9 of spades highlights my apprehension to change and the things that lie in front of me. Though I am constantly enthusiastic about bringing new energy into my life, I tend to be a little resistant to it at fist.

I am very drawn to this card; very fascinated by the profound truth it holds. I keep hearing the words resistance and denial as I look at it. The closer I look, the deeper I feel, the more I realize that this card isn’t so much about inviting new energy into my life… its more about saying goodbye to the old and worn out.

The third card in this reading was the King of Spades. A fierce energy that has made it his purpose to abolish opposing forces. The King of spades stands as a guardian silently watching me, with a demeanor that chills to the bone and bites like fire. I know that he has come into my life to protect and cast away the things that have worked to block me and weigh me down.

It is interesting to me because the King of Spades is a very forceful energy at times, yet his focus makes him seem almost gentle. His force isn’t the type of egocentric and dominating energy that makes you feel small and worthless… it’s a mighty energy that makes you feel as if you are in the arms of a great protector whom will defend you regardless of fame or glory.

After my restless night last night, I realize that I am in the process of a great and awesome shift of thinking. I am learning to be in synch with my intuitive self and the Universe. I think I am restless because I know that deep inside I need to shake clean my spirit and allow my truest self to emerge. No more pretenses, no more holding back, only pure, raw and uninhibited living!

Ace of Diamonds

I keep fiddling with a new deck of linen finish playing cards that I bought the other day. I have a fascination with cards in general and I’ve been wanting to buy a deck of regular playing card for a bit now. I like the idea of holding something in your hands that to most people seems so plain and ordinary, but actually has many, many secrets to tell.

This seminally ordinary deck of cards has kept me entertained for the past few days.I just sit here at the table shuffling, flipping, observing and shuffling again. In doing this simple ritual I have had a few “jumping” cards… and over and over again I seem to get the Ace of Diamonds. A wonderful card to get I might add.

The ace of diamonds is a card of new beginnings and new projects. Its a card that tell us we are on the path to success, prosperity and security. This card is often a sign from the universe that the things you have worked so hard to dream up, believe in and manifest are now coming true. Diamonds are beautiful stones created from heat, stress, pressure and time… often the very things we put into our goals. The ace of diamonds is the herald of good energy and new opportunity.

I love that this card keeps appearing in my life because its totally relevant. I am in the process of planning a trip to London for work… looking for housing and saving to pay for it. I am immersing myself in designing. And I have been seeing so many things growing and expanding with my readings and writing. Its powerful right now… the alignment of intention and manifestation.

I continually practice gratitude and faith in Spirit knowing that each thing shall fall into place and that I am deserving of the absolute best! I think that’s the Ace of Diamonds reminder to us, “The best is yours for the taking… just open the door and invite it in.”
