Touching the Divine: Praying With Tarot

Prayer is touching the Divine with reverence…giving your hopes, fears and dreams to the Divine, and then listening. Most people pray daily, whether or not it’s a sacred solemn hour of prayer or quick “note to God” in the car… most people pray! But what they don’t do is listen.

When you pray you must listen, and not only listen but also find the heart of your prayer! Most prayers are superficial, not to say they come from a superficial place, but most prayers only touch the surface of what is really stifling a person. You must explore the depth of what you are asking for.

Have you ever thought about praying with Tarot? The cards are a language for you to communicate with the Universe. So why not touch the Divine by praying with the Tarot? The beauty here is that you create a dialogue with the Universe. You pray and the Universe speaks.

Passivity in prayer is a downfall. The Universe asks you to be a co-creator in your reality. You aren’t a helpless puppet falling prey to the whim sand fancy of some person in the sky! You are a vibrant, energetic being, casting beautiful rays into the world! You are DIVINE! You must pray like you are divine!

Prayer is a partnership! Pray as a creator. Pray and listen. Pray and communicate! Don’t pray like you are entitled… or helpless! There are those moments when you feel you are breaking, when in desperation you have to call out to the creator and beg for salvation. It’s human nature to reach out in our darkest hour… when we see nothing before us. Even in those moments of despair your must learn to listen. To ask for the answers and listen.

When I pray with Tarot I come to the moment as if I am meeting an old, wise friend. I open my heart and mind. I allow myself to be moved by wonder. I hold my cards in my hand. I call out to the Divine with prayer. Then, I let the Divine speak back through the cards. I ask and listen. I question. Moving closer to the heart of my need.

Do not just open the door with prayer; use Tarot to invite the wisdom of the Universe and your guides in. Tarot is a bridge for you to communicate with the Universe… and your soul.

Take an active approach. Instead of asking to receive something, pray by asking questions.

You may call out to the Divine begging for a romantic partner, “I am lonely, please, bring me someone I can love!” Take a different approach, instead of making a request; probe deeper,

Say, “Help me to see the source of my loneliness.”

Now pull 3 cards. What do you see? What clarity did the cards bring? Did your perspective change? Is it a romantic partner that you need to ease your loneliness? Or is there something else? What block has stifled you?

Respond back. Pull a card that represents your response. This is a symbolic gesture that you’ve heard the Universe. Reiterate to the Universe what you’ve discovered by asking!

Maybe you choose the 3 of Cups because you realize now that you need to celebrate your life, appreciate your circle of friends, and enjoy being spontaneous.

Continue your dialogue. Poke and prod. Go deeper. Ask more questions. There is no limit to what you can ask. There are no stupid questions. The more you ask, the more you understand. Clarity is the essence of prayer.

Next you could ask, “What can I do to ease my loneliness?” or “How can I move forward now that I understand the source of my loneliness?”

As with a reading, the better the question, the more specific the question, the clearer the answer.

Dig to the roots of your prayer. Change = Shifting energy. You must understand the source of the “problem” before you can change it. I’m reminded of Rumpelstiltskin… if you know the true name of a thing you have power over it!

So what cards come up? What is your next step? Your situation should be clearer.

Next you can layout your path. This is the way you wish to move forward. The Universe does not require specific instructions. Layout your intended path with the cards… the Universe will workout the details. Ask yourself how you want the energy to flow? What feels good?

Place at least 3 cards down in a line. These are your stepping-stones. Lay them out, contemplating how they reflect the shift you are making. This is a visual representation of your shift. Take a photograph of these cards… refer back to them.

You can ask the Universe to respond to your “proposed” path. Asking, “Does this path align with my prayer?”

Trust yourself! Trust what feels good! You are having a Q&A with the Universe. You are engaging with your destiny! Own your destiny! Consciously manifest.

Do you feel empowered now? Does it feel different to be involved in your prayer? Do you enjoy this approach?

The Universe likes partnership. This approach helps you shift energy. No more dumping a load of request in the lap of the Divine. You are becoming active. Shifting energy is the key to affective prayer!!

You can utter a million beautiful words while knelling in the darkness at your bedside… but unless you know the heart of what you are asking… unless you are willing to make a change and take responsibility…  there isn’t much that can be done.

Understanding Intuition: Insight Fifteen

There is a constant stream of thoughts, words and ideas running through our head creating an inner dialogue. In order to tap into your intuition, you must learn to separate your inner voice, from the conglomerated chatter of the world around you (people, TV, radio, co-workers, past conversations). Take time for silence to allow your inner dialogue to unwind, and disentangle from the chaos. In silence you can hear the whispers of intuition, and eventually they will be loud and clear.

Understanding Intuition: Insight Fourteen

The future is fluid…a pulsing, ever changing thing. Nothing is set in stone. You have within your power the ability to manipulate energy, meaning you can influence the tides of what’s to come in your life. Instead of feeling helpless at the arms of fate, you can look the future fearlessly in the eye! The more conscious you are of your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs the more consciously you can manifest. With that being said there are things that you will need to experience, whether you like it or not! We all have a map to follow on our journey, you have a destination/lesson to learn, but the paths to that lesson are as numerous as the routes to Florida!

Understanding Intuition: Insight Thirteen

Intuition is a compass to navigate through the dark and the light. Intuition links us in with the Universe so we can avert disaster, and sail smoothly to our dreams. Respect intuition, do NOT treat it like a parlor trick (not to say intuition isn’t fun!). I remind my clients that, “A reading is meant to help you consciously manifest the life you want”. Intuition helps you to see the road markers along the way.

The Poetry of Death

Death is a reminder to us that everything is in constant motion; an endless dance that moves us from one phase to the next. Passing through doors you remain a part of the changeless change. As a caterpillar dies to the beauty of a butterfly, so does our soul here on earth shed it shell to fly with something a little more spectacular, brilliant and gleaming. Death is the teacher, the keeper and the lover. Death gives us the gift of living… if only we see it before our time.

Fire Light

Owner, Dudva.

We came here faithful and wild eyed. Looking for answers as the smoke made rings around their heads. They were forgotten angels, forged in the heat and pressure of another storm. Beyond your memory is hidden a history far greater than can be told in words.

I lit a candle, burned it for 3 days to heal the pain. The color was liquid red and hot like the sweat that ran down your face as I was leaving. You were begging for change, and yet I had changed long before you knew. Why do they forsake the ones they love?

So they sing. They sing as the dark falls around them. A gentle cloak of raven black. There you can hear the words being whispered to silhouettes of strangers. Faces of marionettes suspended from memories. Make me up how you want to. Make them believe I was nothing and you were everything.

He wanted badly to touch the heart of the mystery. A dangerous soul who would rage against the gods. Fire could rain down. Prayers couldn’t protect him. There’s not map to guide you as you slip away into your own misery. Mock them as you run. They will taunt you. We can still pray… even though prayers are useless now.

If I can wake up and breathe again. Does that mean none of it was real? I might just be another memory. She said the white doves are calling to us now. We can walk on the edge of what was, and what will be. We can dance with the dead to feel alive again. There’s no shame in burning a candle… even if it can’t drown out the night.

I whisper one more time before its over. I touch my lips gently to the flame. Kissing the fire. Another form of passing. Wind catches light and pushes it into oblivion. A fragile soul is lost to the dark again. Snuffed out. No more light. No more life. I hope the prayers still burn brightly on the other side.

It’s the End of the World As We Know It

Today is the day that the world will spiral off into oblivion! All of us are going to crash and burn into the sun, and become particles of dust, forgotten in the Universe! NOT!! As romantic as all that sounds, it’s all made up! The world may end at some point, but it isn’t today. In fact, today marks a new beginning.

So now that I’ve disappointed you, let me give my 2 cents on what is happening. This is a time of energetic shifts and fluxuations. We are ending one phase of being and moving into another. For many this will be like shedding their old, worn-out skin and finding a little wiggle room. For the more hardheaded this is going to be a difficult time.

In essence the Universe is under going a metamorphosis, and we are a part of this big, booming change. Fire may not fall from the sky, but a strong surge of energy will eventually permeate everything. For the ones that are riding the waves of change this will seem subtle.

Much like the Death card in the Tarot, this isn’t a true death; it’s more a transformation that leads to an awakening. This is much needed and we’ve been moving toward it for some time. For those of you “New Agers”, you will be able to attest to the fact that in the past 10-20 years spirituality and positive thinking have become more mainstream than ever before imaginable. You can buy Wayne Dyer at Wal-Mart folks! That’s huge.

In the past 5 years I have noticed my clientele has become more and more diverse with a larger number of men coming to visit without hesitation. People are feeling the pull to be aware of their deeper self, to tap into the subtle and ephemeral.

To sum up The End of the World in a nutshell… it goes like this….

What you believe about yourself, and the world and how it all works will be magnified. So get this, if you think that you’re a victim, everything is bad, and nothing ever works out for you… I’m sorry to say, but things are going to get worse. We are moving into prime-time manifestation, baby! If you have dreams, dream them big because doors are going to swing wide open!

With that being said, this may not happen over night, but the change will be noticeable. So be ready, be willing and be happy :-)

To your gypsy souls,

Shaheen

A Time of Parting

The night is a gentle fog falling around me, enveloping me, wrapping me in velvet darkness. A cool, inky feeling has settled upon me. My soul is coming out in layers and colors, symbolic gestures that have come before in some ancient life. The autumn is alive and well… the reining queen of the harvest has come to claim her glory.

This is the time when the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest. Our ancestors are among us, cloaked and smiling. Bright shinning stars are lighting up on the in-between. Trust your feelings, the shivers, the inspirations, and the insights that have been gifted to you in crystal perfect. This is the time of remembrance. This is the time of parting.

Hold your fears in your hand like little pebbles. Name them, breathe life into them, and then cast them into the fire. Let the cleansing light renew you; relieve you of your worries and concerns. The leaves fall knowing that they will be reborn in the spring. Trust in the process of nature.

I’ve begun pulling cards to tell stories. There are messages in pictures and images. The Universe is speaking to us… imparting wisdom if you hush for a second and bend your ear to listen.

As I pulled cards from the Halloween Tarot, three came out. The King of Bats (Swords) The King of Imps (Wands) and The Four of Pumpkins (coins). A lovely mix of characters have come out to play; the stately kings sitting on their thrones and the benevolent pumpkin creature working diligently in his garden.

The King of Bats is a reminder to you to let your thoughts be clear, and in doing so cast away doubt and worry. Your thoughts are powerful charms warding and drawing things to you. Learn to be conscious of what you’re thinking.

The King of Imps urges you to get out of your head and to channel your thoughts into action. This is time to release the old and begin sewing the new. You have pure energy and potential waiting to be utilized. All you want is within your grasp if you push forward.

The Four of Pumpkins reminds you that what you begin to sew will bloom and grow into something beautiful and spectacular…even if you don’t see it now, it will soon come! Your thoughts are seeds waiting to be brought to life, all you need to is meet the Universe half way by pursuing your dreams.

Be well my friends and enjoy the beautiful energy that’s in the air! Light a candle to your loved ones and ask for guidance on your path.

The Will to Change

I stepped into the darkened parlor, only a candle illuminated the room from the piano in the corner. A sound like a clock ticking trailed off in the distance.  Each tic coincided with the beat of my heart. I moved deeper into the shadows trying to unfold the mystery that lingered, invisible in the air.

I touched the cool wood of the table and felt the soft velvet that covered the sofa. My senses were tingling with anticipation. I felt faint, almost out of breath, I felt as if I had been battered by the tenacious waves of the ocean. Something was coming over me.

I was met by a vision; something loomed heavy in the corner. I knew that there was a messenger here. He had come for me to impart his wisdom. “Show yourself!” I protested. But nothing came from the darkness.

Catching my breath, I sat on the sofa. I pulled the warm air into my lungs and let the scent of musk and roses fill me. There was something different here. Something I had never felt before. Or maybe I was never open to its mystery.

Suddenly it came to me. The figure appeared like a bead of light moving through a dark sky. It was the spirit of change. Some may call it death, others may call it life, but I simply call it change.

The figure held out its hand. I could only make out the slight structure… tall, thin, and able. I felt with every fiber of my being that it was time. Time to let go of the worn-out and the old. Time to move into the future, fearless and alive. I knew it wasn’t the end, but actually the beginning.

Loud and clear I heard from within the body of light, “Dance! The secret of life is to dance!”… and then the light receded back into shadows like the dying embers of a fire. Darkness absorbed all traces of light until only I was left, with this vision and this message to carry on in my head.

I closed my eyes. Startled. Moved. Changed. I knew that everything would be okay.

Book Review: The Day Your Heart Broke In Your Eyes

“Sometimes, you will find yourselves living your life, yet your familiar, cherished goals and objects no longer hold desire, or perhaps even relevance, for who you have become and who you are becoming.”

-The Day Your Heart Broke In Your Eyes

Met by a vision of “fluid light” in which everything began to vibrate with life and divinity, Marcia Brennan’s world was changed. She became aware of her Angelic guides and began blazing a trail into a mysterious world of seeing beyond what meets the human eye, and becoming a channel for something greater than herself.

We have all been in a place of despair, confusion and fear, not knowing what the next step should be, not knowing who we are or what we should be doing. It’s not uncommon to want to find your “life purpose”, but how exactly do you connect with your center and find your place in the world?

The Day Your Heart Broke In Your Eyes is a wealth of channeled wisdom given to us from the Angels of Recognition. Though at times a bit overly floral, the language is poignant and lyrical, speaking to our visceral sense of divinity. Each passage offers a different facet of the spiritual experience, giving ample space for self-reflection.

Writing in a very abstract style, musing on very abstract concepts makes the book a bit difficult to read at times. As with many texts, I often find the need to digest the message or to really meditate on the message, but more often than not, I was distracted by this abstract approach. I felt there were clearer ways to phrase these deeply spiritual messages.

The Day Your Heart Broke In Your Eyes is an almost narrative experience with equal parts of visual complexity and riddle. You will feel as if you’ve fallen into a strange wonderland, cradled by angel wings and prompted by your inner whispers. This book will wrap you in a gossamer tapestry of illuminated prose and contradictions.

I urge you as a reader to approach the book as a type of oracle; the information is more easily digested in small portions. Ask the angels for guidance and open at random to see what insight they can impart. Allow your left-brain, analytical mind to rest as you read these insights, and learn to feel the words on the page. What kind of experience do they evoke for you? Follow it like the white rabbit to a place of awakening.

I must admit that the beginning, autobiographical portion of the book drugged on a bit, and the book became more intriguing and adventurous as it neared the middle half to the end. But my perception of the text changed once I began seeing each portion as a meditation, instead of an explanation.

This isn’t a text of how-to, it is a glimmer of light into your own darkness, the beginning step of a path you must dare to tread on your own. Or as the Angels so eloquently put it, “Through the vehicle of this book, we offer you a kite string, a living connection to the world of moving colors that swirls so gracefully and magically above and around and within you”.

The title, The Day Your Heart Broke In Your Eyes was echoed throughout the book many times, but the explanation of the phrase never came. I am still left feeling a little unfulfilled by the title… I patiently read on, contemplated the many passages where it showed up, looked back for something I may have missed, but the explanation was never given. It felt like overkill and a bit clunky. Maybe the message will reveal itself later, but for now I think something else would have been more fitting.

I applaud Marcia Brennan for her bravery and dedication to the Angels. Becoming a channel for such a powerful beam of light and significant message is a big undertaking. This book isn’t for the beginner, but more for the seasoned spiritual traveler. This is, in fact, a guide to navigate the mystic deeper into one’s own mysteries.

Do you want to reach deeper? Go higher? Expand beyond where you are now? Then pick up this book!  The Day Your Heart Broke In Your Eyes is a text that will change and evolve each time you read it. Hidden within its layers of light and shadows are immeasurable morsels of wisdom, so keep reading.
