my manifestation mandala

Though this is not a Mandala in the traditional sense, it is a collage of images that spark and inspire me to push energy into my dreams. The circle is a sacred symbol of focus and divinity. It represents the spark of life in the beginning, the first bit of light from the universe unfolded from. It represents the womb of creation. The vortex to the higher realms. And the everlasting life of the spirit… which like a ring never ends.

new york dreaming

It’s a dream. That’s what this is here, New York City. I dreamt it long before, sometime toward the end of high school, I found myself wondering the streets of this concrete jungle thinking, “This is home!” I never thought I would be back here so fast… Living, breathing, and creating.

There is a hum that lives in everything here, the walls, and the streets… the people. The hum of a warm engine, a ticking time bomb, or a soft, baby kitten. Some people are cold and harsh and others are bright and open… regardless they all move fast. The thing I love about this city is that in the fast pace of it all, an in-between place exists where anything can happen… that’s where I dream.

There are things that can be a little unfavorable, such as a stampede of people at lunchtime, practically running you over, or wondering upon a puff of toxic, stench during your evening stroll for dinner… but with the good comes the sour. It’s like that in all cities. Some say you can’t see the stars, but I see them in millions of passing faces. Some say there is never peace, but I find it in the lively conversations of elderly couples on the streets. There is magic here.

I love my job. I enjoy the people I work with and the environment. Everyone is funny and positive. There is a general sense of wellbeing there. Good natured and positive intentions. I feel relaxed at work… a contrast from my previous internship. There is less creativity involved… but you know I bring a little color wherever I go.

New York city is teaching me that there is an opportunity wherever you look. Opportunities come to those who seek them out. It’s not necessarily where you are, but what you are putting out there… here there are so many wavelengths to ride on. There is something for everyone. I will keep that with me. That knowing.

My third day here, I met Patti Smith. She is a rock legend, a poet and a powerhouse of moody and evocative feelings. I felt like another muse had come down to whisper in my ear. There is something mystical about meeting the faeries of the rock and roll other world… Stevie Nicks in London, Patti Smith in New York City.  To say the lease… I was moved!

My spirit has been calling out to touch and taste something exotic. I want to consume books, images, people… I want to take in all the sights, etching them into my psyche. I see faces in the streets and I want to tell their stories. I want to tell my story. Here is the start of an amazing journey. I continue to transform… I am in a constant state of Alchemy (we all are).

New York City is a huge light, a candle burning, attracting spirits in pursuit of dreams. Sometimes it is intimidating, you feel like you are drowning in a sea of a million other lights… they shine, they beg to be seen and they disappear into the pool of nothing, everything, anything. You have to be like water here… and just go with the flow. There is no room for rigidity or fear… those are the things that break you. Those are the things that snuff your light all together. I say this as I stand at the threshold. I pray for the strength to hold tight… to continue to shine.

To the Gypsies… with love always

Poets, Legends, Priest of Nothing

I think everyone needs someone or thing that keeps them inspired and really motivates them to follow their dreams. That person for me is Stevie Nicks. She is one of the many magical, fairy Godmothers that I look up to in my life and she has been for a very long time.

Her timeless, mystical and emotive persona has become something very familiar to me over the years. As a little kid I can remember being totally enthralled by her songs and thinking how she so eloquently put into words the things that live in my imagination and spirit.

The many songs that she has penned and performed solo and as the lead singer of Fleetwood Mac have become staples on my ipod and they have been the energy behind so many journal entries, projects and writing of my own.

I’ve known my entire life that I came here to be a storyteller. I tell stories with my cards, I tell stories with my garments, I tell stories with my poems and songs. Ms. Nicks has given me the courage to embrace my place as a storyteller.

So let me ask, “What story are you telling? “

Stevie Nicks has been pulling us into her little world since the 70s and decade after decade she has given us wonderful music.

Here is my favorite version of Edge of Seventeen… such a dark and moody song that really energizes me.

And here is a wonderful song from her MUST HAVE new album IN YOUR DREAMS! Its called Annabel Lee, from the poem by Edgar Allen Poe.

Fall Into the Dark

There is something calming about falling into the night, just letting go and allowing the hushed and gentle spirit of the Moon to speak to you. I find myself coming alive in the dark. I lay down to go to bed after a long, hard day and something in me is awakened by the subtle calm that permeates the air. I want to write, I want to sing, I want to tell my secrets to the angels.

I feel that I’ve crossed over into another world as the night comes on. Everything looks different, one thing transforms into another. We all become shape shifters in the dark. We unwind and let go; we shed the layers of the day. Like a weight has been lifted and we become light again. Its at night, in the dark that we can become the darkness unafraid.

There is nothing to fear in the dark because if you close your eyes everything becomes nothing and nothing is all the same. Its a powerful form of alchemy where you can experience what is unable to be seen in the light of day. Its not that everything in the night is taboo in the day, its just easier at night because there are no expectations. You have no guilt when you are falling into the darkness because thats whats expected; whether you are sleeping, dreaming or going wild.

I ask you to find what sets you free. In the still of the night find something that inspires you. My muse comes alive in the night. She takes my hand and ask me to dance with her. Thats when I write my deepest poems and draw out my most intimate dreams. The night time is powerful because its very intimate. The night time is like a silk velvet robe of the darkest ebony, slipping around your body gently touching you, keeping you safe. So let yourself unwind and just fall into it all, you become the darkness and let the darkness become you. Thats when I know you should whisper to your angels.

Be creative, be alive and most of all be free…

I love your gypsy souls….

Secret Love

One of my biggest inspirations is Stevie Nicks, the legenardy, magical rock and roll goddess. She is the front woman for Fleetwood Mac. She has had an extrodinary career in Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist. Renound for her raspy vocals and bewitching lyrics, and etherial dress. She has become a muse to many people from designers, to musicians, to writers.

As a writer I have been inspired by her use of words and poetry to tell deeply emotional and impacting stories. Every song she writes is a combination of truth and mystery. She has a way of taking people to another world and helping them to feel something deep and moving… whether it be love, the loss of it or something a little edgier. And her style of dress has always been part gypsy, part sorceress and all rock and roll.

As a designer I have found myself going back to her clothing again and again for ideas. The silhouettes, colors, texture and details are all phenomenal and her clothes are completely couture. She is just so timeless and graceful. She has been rocking out since the 70s and she is still extremely beautiful and mesmerizing.

If you are a Stevie fan there is some wonderful news, on May 3, 2011 her new studio album “In Your Dreams” will be released. So far it seems to be very promising. Wonderful tracks filled with her signature moody vocals and her wonderful lyrics. I have seen pictures and heard a few snippers of songs and I LOVE everything about it. This time around she is really taking people into her little world, which is nothing but pure magic.

Today her new Video “Secret Love” was released. It is the video to the albums first single which came out a few months ago. There was talk of the video coming out sooner, but it wasn’t released until today. No worries though… the video is phenomenal. So many wonderful things happening in it. A great story can be seen in the video, it seems to be a nostalgic reflection of her wonderful gypsy, carnival ride of a life. Definitely filled with emotion and feeling.

Below is the video for the new single “Secret Love” and also a promo video for her album “In Your Dreams” …hope you love it!
