Givenchy Spring 2011 Couture

I find this collection to be brilliant. All the beautiful elements that were brought together here are just inspiring; the colors, the shapes and the fabrics. These dresses are part luxury, part myth and part space adventure into the future. They are masterfully executed and cohesive.

Chief Designer Riccardo Tisci is known for his intensity, drawing inspiration from things such as the Gothic and Space-age minimalism. His interest in Japanese robots and the passing of the Japanese dancer Kazuo Ohno, were the inspiration for this collection. With special attention on things such as appliqué and creating a sense of three-dimensionality.

To me the most intriguing part about this collection is the sense of spiritual mystery that is wrapped up in this ultra-modern/space age look. It is slightly scifi, but with more sophistication. I instantly think of the word “Avatar” when I see these dresses…. and I don’t mean tall, blue, alien like avatars. I am speaking of the Hindu term for enlightened beings.

Something about this speaks to me. I especially like the images that he chose for the garments. And the use of color is very intuitive. Dusty, muted tones, accented with a pop of color strategically placed. Not to mention the bizarre and evocative hats my Philip Treacy. This is just good stuff to me…

Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost

I was moved today when I read this quote by JRR Tolken. There is something powerful in that line. “Not all those who wander are lost.” It gives me this settled feeling, knowing that though the road may be uncertain and at times I have no idea whats next… I’m not lost… Just a nomad. Lately I have been feeling a little anxious and sort of in the dark, but I gently remind myself that I must dance with it all.

The Queen of Wands fell out of the deck as i was shuffling the cards to ask about “What My True Purpose Is”. Her key word is “Inspiration” and I can hear her saying to me, “Child let go and be inspired. Walk your life in living color and let go of the fear and the doubt. Be inspired, be royal, be grand and be eccentric. Today is a journey separate from tomorrow… so take it all in now! No more waiting.”

I have to let go of the idea that something is coming, that the day will finally arrive when I have enough money or enough time or enough talent or enough experience or enough love… its not wort the wait any longer. I am enough, you are enough and we are enough. There is nothing in this world we can’t do or have. We are entitled to all the riches of the world and unless we know that and unless  we live every moment feeling that… it will never come.

I have come to realize that destiny is like the wind, we can either let it blow through us, we can harnest it and use it, some of us just need to dance with it and at times you run and hide from it. I want to dance with it. I want the wind to blow with me, through me and all around me. I want it to lift me up and take me away. I am spreading my wings and flying, even if I know not where I am going… I know that I will never be lost.

Lets open our eyes and see life as a magnificent ball and each of us will dress in our finery and dance and sing. We will feast on the most delightful meals and we will partake in the most exciting events. We will live on the edge of the exotic and surreal. We may be kings and queens of nothing… but we are royal non the less. Lets wear velvet and gold. Lets stand out amongst the gray. Lets shine brighter than all the stars in the sky. lets chase away the night. Lets forget about fear and doubt and know that we hold in our hands the rarest and most precious gems of the Universe.

“I have danced for kings. I have danced down dirt roads. I have wandered too far from what some may call home. I have laughed and cried. I have watched the strange and exquisite die. But never have I been lost… because change is the angel in my life.” -SM

Monthly Tarot Card: The Star

The Star is one of the most brilliant cards in the Major Arcana of the tarot deck; It’s suck a powerful card and its one of my favorite. I know when this card shows up it’s a time of new energy and a time of new beginnings. Wishes are coming true and dreams are being fulfilled.

Looking at this card you often see a woman standing half in the water and half on the land, holding a cups pouring water on the ground and back into the ocean. She is often sky-clad and serene. She reminds us that we must walk the middle ground between worlds and it’s when we let down our guard, take of the layers and really step out into the unknown that we become filled up and whole.

When I see the star I instantly feel in touch with my spirit. She clears away the worn out and the heavy allowing only light to remain. I think that we are all trying to be in the light, the light of the stars and the moon. The spiritual light that has lived inside of us since the beginning shinning free… a forgotten lantern lit once again.

When you see the star you know that it is time to rest and just be at peace. There is nothing to be afraid of; there is nothing to bring you down. Even in the darkness you can find a soft and gentle glow. A guiding light will show you the way if you just look up and trust. The Star is asking you to surrender and trust.

I believe that The Star could easily be called the soul because she is the light that lives in all of us. She is the beautiful, pure and unchanged being that resides deep inside. When you look into the mirror, look past the years, the pain and the circumstance and see the gentle light, the windows to your soul, there lives the star.

Remember to always ask the guiding light of intuition to lead the way. Just close your eyes, shut out your fears and trust. The Star is about trusting the process, trusting your intuition and trusting Spirit. It’s through trusting the process that dreams come true!

“I was fearful of the darkness, I was fearful of the change. Then she took my hand and pulled me into the night. We danced among the velvet blankness of nothing. We danced through the storm; we danced back to the sea. We danced until the light cast everything else away.” –SM

Dancing In the Storm

The rain has been falling for days as a reminder to me and to the world that it is time to wash away the hurt and the pain… its time to wash away the shell that we have built around us to make us numb to our feelings. It’s okay sometimes to be stormy and to totally lose composure. Sometimes you have to dance with the fire in order heal the burn.

I have watched so many people push their feelings and emotions away. Locking them tightly inside like Pandora and her cursed box. It’s within that they build and become insidious, finally finding a way to bubble to the surface… they peak their heads out eventually, saying, “hey remember me the nasty little creature you locked away long ago?”

Its time to face our fears, dance in the dark, pull off the mask and break it. Its time to live a little because until you learn to let loose and actually be with the wind, the rain and the water, you are only going to drawn under the pressure. Eventually something has to be done, some form of spiritual house cleaning.

I keep hearing the famous line from Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams, “When the rain washes you clean you’ll know” and I think I am beginning to understand the process of cleansing. There are still so many layers to break through, to wash away and to really come face to face with. One thing I know is now its time, time to get back to basics and time to get back to spirit.

I want to stand outside and spin until all the colors of blue, black and purple swirl into gray, until the ground and the sky rumble as one. I want to spin until I become the eye of the storm. I want to spin until there is nothing left but the rotation of change. I want to spin until I am one with the great wheel of the universe. The truth of dancing with the chaos is finally settling into my bones.

The only way to the light is through the dark. I think that having a beautiful, peaceful and spiritual life is all about learning to move and bend. Spiritually we must be like a tree in a great storm… if we are rigid and unwilling to move, then parts of use begin to crack and break and eventually our foundation will be pulled away. Movement is key in all of this. Movement is among the most important spiritual keys to follow.

I ask you to stand in the rain and rage with the thunder and be cleansed by the water and then as all the layers of fear, pain and negativity fall away declare, “This is MY life and MY truth. I will move with spirit and dance with destiny.”

Take from this rain the truth that there are signs everywhere speaking to us, asking us to pay a little closer attention. Signs come from everywhere and they may be global or personal, just look for the essence of everything and allow yourself to connect with the essence of everything rather than the shell.

So much love,

Shaheen

Black Cat Wisdom

My black cat is undoubtably my best friend. Him and I have a wonderful connection.I’m pretty certain that him and I are soul mates.

I am constantly learning something new from him. He is the wildest, cutest and bravest little thing you have ever met in your life. There is no questioning his tenacity and independence. And let me tell you… do not make him mad because he will chase you down and give you a peace of his mind.

His mystery never ceases to amaze me. He loves with extreme passion and lives with the ultimate grace. When I come home every day he follows me through the house chatting with me about, I assume, whatever his day consisted of and then he does a flop and a roll and invites me to rub on his fuzzy little belly. And when I’m not feeling well he instantly knows and he snuggles up next to me and works his hardest to ease my pain.

Watching him has taught me some wonderful things. Like a witch and her familiar we seem to have an intuitive connection that is unbreakable. He always enchants people and makes new friends. He is boisterous, friendly and a little bit of a goofball. Ask anyone who has sat down to get a reading… he loves to come up and give his spin on whatever the cards might say!

So I have decided I would start a series of post sharing with you some of the the things that Baby Ali has shared with me. These will be titled “Black Cat Wisdoms”. I hope you find them insightful and humorous. Keep checking back to see what mylittle b

lack cat might have to tell you!

Best Wishes,

Shaheen

Waking Among Kings and Cards

I woke up not having much sleep. It’s hard sometimes at night to actually fall asleep even if my body and mind are tired because so many things start going through my head. I’m one of those people who constantly thinks about everything and when its time for bed… that’s when my mind decided to work the hardest.

Today I pulled a few cards for insight into the day and the energy around me and what I turned over was very interesting. First card that I had was the Ace of Hearts; those aces are relentless in following me these days. Following that card the 9 of Clubs and then the King of Spades.

The ace of hearts is a powerful card because it speaks of change and new beginnings. Aces are always cards that remind us of the powerful energy of whichever suit it resides in. This is a card that speaks to me about connections with people, relationships are changing and facets of my life with others will begin to die away. This card brings with it a storm of emotions that beg me to take a crucial look at my life and to see what or whom is really necessary for me to be happy.

The 9 of spades represent challenges and the search of truth. It’s the card of the seeker or someone who should start to seek a little more. I can see this card as a sign that I am standing at the edge of something, the door to a brilliant castle… wonders and possibilities waiting, if only I would knock. The 9 of spades highlights my apprehension to change and the things that lie in front of me. Though I am constantly enthusiastic about bringing new energy into my life, I tend to be a little resistant to it at fist.

I am very drawn to this card; very fascinated by the profound truth it holds. I keep hearing the words resistance and denial as I look at it. The closer I look, the deeper I feel, the more I realize that this card isn’t so much about inviting new energy into my life… its more about saying goodbye to the old and worn out.

The third card in this reading was the King of Spades. A fierce energy that has made it his purpose to abolish opposing forces. The King of spades stands as a guardian silently watching me, with a demeanor that chills to the bone and bites like fire. I know that he has come into my life to protect and cast away the things that have worked to block me and weigh me down.

It is interesting to me because the King of Spades is a very forceful energy at times, yet his focus makes him seem almost gentle. His force isn’t the type of egocentric and dominating energy that makes you feel small and worthless… it’s a mighty energy that makes you feel as if you are in the arms of a great protector whom will defend you regardless of fame or glory.

After my restless night last night, I realize that I am in the process of a great and awesome shift of thinking. I am learning to be in synch with my intuitive self and the Universe. I think I am restless because I know that deep inside I need to shake clean my spirit and allow my truest self to emerge. No more pretenses, no more holding back, only pure, raw and uninhibited living!

A Night With the Gypsy

Last night was wonderful. I was invited to do readings at a small boutique called Ottoman Imports in Covington, Ky… for Ladies Night Out! It was a blast. The shop is a quaint little place, filled with flowing scarfs reminiscent of Morocco and beautiful silky garments beaded and embroidered like old kimonos. It felt nice to be in a place that vibrated with such color and passion. And the court yard where I did readings… was even more etherial.

The night start with a sense of electric in the air, that feeling before a storm as if you have your hand on the pulse of the great mother. The wind swirled around me and the night fell gently on our shoulders inviting us to dance with the mysterious characters of the tarot. I was out back in a small and inviting courtyard, under a spacious canvas tent. I made sure I brought a fabulous scarf, one of my favorite decks of cards and the openness to touch the wisdom of the universe.

People started making their way into the shop, escorted to the courtyard by the lovely owner. Sitting down to take a peak at what may be going on “out there”. Right before laying out the cards I always get this surge of energy, part anxiety and part anticipation. Its not every day you sit down for an arranged meeting with spirit… there is something reverent about the whole experience. I think everyone last night knew it too.

Conversing with people through the night, many card and many stories told… it was wonderful. Eventually we had to relocate the reading table to the inside of the boutique because the wind decided he wanted to be a little more wild than we could handle. It was great though. Right before we went inside, the wind had picked up jerking the canvas tent from side to side like a helpless paper bag. But the woman whom i was reading and I just laughed and laughed… we thought it was grand. But for our safety we made our way in.

The inside was just as magical and people didn’t seem to mind the change of scenery, besides you can read no matter where you are… I’ve read on busses in Mexico and the busy streets of big cities. We marched on reading and chatting, peaking and planning. All of the people whom I read for were amazing, wonderful stories and wonderful wisdoms. You know the cards talk to everyone who is at the table… regardless of who shuffled.

A duo of ladies came at one point and they loved there readings. They cried, they laughed, they hugged, they got sassy, they told stories… and they cried again. Later I heard that they kept crying all the way down the street. The one woman was asked if she was okay and her response was, “I am so amazing right now… so happy” and on and on she sobbed. Readings are cleansing for sure.

The night ended with a group of 5 wild and wonderful ladies. All goddesses in their own right and the best of friends. We sat circled around a small table in the shop front of this boutique watching the night walkers pass the window as we took one last walk in the wonderland of tarot. One by one they asked their questions and shuffled their cards… It really was one big reading part. 5 women, one reading. They were all just listening so that they could “help” each other remember their session. So fun.. so so fun!

We said our goodbyes and I headed home. It was such a magical night to be out. The wind and the rain and the energy was just alive and inspiring. I cannot wait to do it again. There is so much excitement in groups of people. Being there it really inspired me to get myself in gear to be doing classes… so look for that soon

All the best,

Shaheen

Personal Reading: Creative Energy

Lots of inspiration and creativity entering into my life right now. I have felt a cosmic type of cleansing happening to me, my life, my spirit and the lives of the people around me. Something mystical is afoot and I am happy to invite it into my life. The weather has been the first indicator of change, with the wheel of the year turning to Spring and now all of the rain… washing us clean.

I have found myself caught in these moments of pure silence and mediation, just seeing the room that I am in, the things I surround myself with; the images I have built up around me in order to define myself. In these moments I realize that I am in need of burning away the old, throwing out the unnecessary and simplifying. I know that for me the art of letting go hold great creative potential which I am seeking to let into my life.

The nomad in me is begging to be set free and I am manifesting many wonderful things right now. I will be leaving for London in a few months which I know will be a spiritual experience in itself and I am now designing so many amazing things, bringing to life images that have lived inside of me for so long. I keep asking Spirit to send to me what I need… and as always, she is

I decided to take a peek at the cards, asking what insights the Universe could offer. I chose the Daughters of the Moon Tarot because they are so vibrant and I knew that the Goddess was seeking to speak with me:

I intuitively pulled four cards. Fours are a number of stability, sanctuary and arrival to me. When I flipped the cards over I was immediately taken in my all of the fire energy. The first card was Kali-The Awakener initing me to let go in her vibrant dance of life, destroying and casting away all negative influences. Then The Phoenix asking me to rise from the ashes of my own past, being re birthed into this new phase. The Eight of Blades being a mediation for me on balance, reminding me to keep myself free. And Mawu the Mother giving birth; the embodiment of an artist being creative… giving life.

These cards are such powerful reminders to me. I know that the more inviting I am to change, the more I take from it. Life is about dancing, dancing in the dark, dancing with life, dancing with chaos, dancing to the music and dancing to the beat of your own drum. Instead of stumbling over the beat because I am afraid, I’m going to let loose and get funky with Spirit so that my inner nomad can express everything.

Listen to Your Body, Heal Your Life

I have lately taken the time to really focus on what I am putting my energy into, what I am intending into my reality and I have been making an effort to align myself with spirit daily. The more connected I begin to feel the more spiritually cleansed and empowered I am. The expression, “Prayer is the act of asking spirit and meditation is the act of listening” has really held true for me.

I have always known that our thoughts and beliefs shape our reality. Not only do they shape the experiences we have in our daily lives, but also they shape our health. Each issue that we have in our body is a reflection of the things that we are holding in our spirit as the truth.

Working with people doing readings and working on my on health physically, mentally and spiritual has opened my eyes to many things about the nature of energy, intention and manifestation. I am baffled by how interconnected all of these things are. From this I have concluded a truth that everything is connected in one big ring, nothing is separate.

It all begins with energy; the energy of your words, your actions, you feelings, beliefs and fears. Whatever you allow to enter into your awareness on a daily bases becomes the commands that our psyche follows and whatever the psyche internalizes becomes the fabric of our reality. Whatever you energetically hold as the truth intricately weaves into existence the life that you now know.

It is interesting because you will find that this process begins in the mind and the emotions. We start to develop psychological patterns, many of which begin at a very young age (from the time you are born until you are around 5 is the key time of internalizing patterns). It is these psychological patterns that begin to weave into our energy field.

If you hold limiting and negative psychological patterns as your truth, then your health is sure to suffer. I know that I have had many experiences where this has held true. One of the most revealing was a few years ago after sustaining severe emotional and physically trauma.

That was a time of twilight for me because I was dealing with so many things at one time. I had to not only focus on my emotional health, but physically my body needed to heal and regain its strength. I worked hard to cycle out emotional debris of pain, hurt and fear. At one point I found myself covered in large inflamed bumps that ran from my spine around my side. They were extremely painful and appeared over night. I saw a doctor and discovered that I had shingles. I instantly knew that this was a physical response from my psyche trying to ride itself of toxins. The negative energy that had built within me literally bubbled to the surface.

Whenever you develop an illness, disease or any sort of physical trauma you need to instantly ask yourself, “What have I allowed into my mind and spirit?” It is when we internalize a mental/emotional pattern that it becomes part of our psyche/spirit and starts to affect the body and on a larger scale.

Your life and health is the manifestation of all the things that you hold as your personal truths. This means that you are the one in control, even if you may not feel that way. You just have to realize how much power you have and work to undo what can be a lifetime of negative manifestation.

The first step is to realize what cords your have created. Energetic cords are the things that we energetically attach ourselves to. They are the results of psychological patterns. For example: If you tend to have negative relationships, a cord has developed between you and your dysfunctional partner; which has allowed them to take your energy and in some cases you to take theirs.

This means that the underlying pattern is that you may feel unloved. Maybe you have accepted into your psyche the “truth” that you will never find someone who accepts you. In turn you may have recently developed a heart issue.

So in order to clear your life of negative lovers and your body of a broken heart, you must change the belief that you have internalized. There is an esoteric law that says, “When one thing is moved in time and space, another thing must fill its place.” So if you are to dissolve the belief that you are “unlovable”, you must then adopt a new truth.

Once you have worked with yourself, very patiently, you can rearrange your beliefs and recreate your life. This process of healing starts with a few things. The two most important that I have found are forgiveness and gratitude.

Forgiveness allows you to cut the energetic cords that may exist between you and the limiting beliefs that have over taken your life so that you can regain your power and consciously manifest. I worked extensively on forgiveness when I was healing. When the negative energy that I had taken into my spirit bubbled to the surface, I had to forgive myself for letting such negative energy into my life, and forgive the people that I thought were suppose to love me and protect me for not being able to live up to the roles that I had assigned them.

By forgiving I no longer had any expectations for others or myself that would allow guilt to build. I was able to internalize the truth that people do the best they can at any given time.

Gratitude comes after forgiveness. Gratitude is like the sunshine to the seed. If you shine your light of gratitude onto the things that you have manifested into your life then you will begin to get more of what you have. Your prosperity, health and love will all multiply.

You must be honest, patient and willing to change in order for these things to work.If you are interested in actively manifesting the life you want then I suggest keeping a journal and asking yourself these questions:

What in your life has been bothering you?

What has really been eating at you, occupying your daily thoughts?

What problems continually reoccur in your life?

What chronic health problems do you have?

Who in your life really bothers you?

What do you dislike about yourself?

Remember that people, illnesses and events are all mirrors to the things that we have accepted as our truths and internalized into our spirits. If something is chronic in your life, whether it is a person, an illness or a problem that reoccurs you have not taken the time to ask what it represents.

Some things are simple to understand. A heart problem can be that you’ve cut yourself off from love because you feel you don’t deserve it. You may never be content at your job because you are not fulfilling your desires to be creative, because you believe that you have to work “hard” to make money. Look at your life closely from a place of love, with a desire to heal and see what doesn’t feel “right”. That’s where you must start the change.

The counter question to the above questions is:

If whatever reoccurring things in your life were a metaphor for something, what would it mean to you?

Be very honest with yourself. It’s only with honestly that you can heal. By understanding the symbolic language of what is manifesting in your life you can find the truth that you have internalized and change it, so that you may manifest the life you want.

Affirm daily, “I am empowered by my personal truths. I am the master of my reality. I consciously create the life that I want with love and gratitude.”
