What is Reiki
The word Reiki is derived from two Japanese ideograms. It can be broken down into two words the first being rei, which means the higher intelligence of the universe, or the spiritual source. This is the divine will of the universe or as some might say, the universal mind. This could be equated with God, or any other governing power. Ki, is the second portion of the word and it means primal and can be understood as primal healing energy. So connecting the two words together is primal healing energy directed spiritually, or as many like to say Reiki is universal light energy.
Reiki is a Japanese form of healing and relaxation therapy. It promotes stress reduction, healing and relaxation on many levels and to varying degrees. The general purpose of Reiki is to promote and create wellbeing in people. At the core of Reiki is a method of energy work that can help to release a person from negative bonds and lead them to a path of least resistance and miraculous opportunities.
Reiki healing is a form of energy work which is channeled through a practitioner and to the receiver who is in need of healing. In the simplest terms Reiki is pure energy. We are also pure energy. Our entire being is a composed of different energies working and reacting with each other… our bodies are the denest part of our being which is why energetic imbalances manifest as illness. Reiki works to restore our energy to its highest form of good.
To understand the concepts of energy direct your focus to a natural phenomenon like the Sun. Even tough we cannot see the energy from the sun we can feel it as heat. The same is true when receiving Reiki, you will usually feel the energy working on your body as a tingling or heat, which will emanate from the palms of the healer. The heat from the sun much like Reiki creates a phenomenon called photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a process by which plants and organisms transform light energy into carbohydrates and oxygen. This concept parallels to the process of Reiki in a similar way.
How Reiki Works
In a healing session the body is sent Reiki energy and that energy is taken in by the body and sent throughout to various organs, cells and tissues and even portions of your aura that are in need of healing. The negative energy or dis-ease undergoes a transformation which is activated by the Reiki energy and that transformation works to reverse all ill effects. There is a basic nature of Reiki, it works to heal and it cannot do harm to the receiver.
As I mentioned before we are all composed of many different levels of energy, that are interacting with each other and with the environment in which we are in. This energy that surrounds our densest layer ( our body) is called the aura. The chakras also exist in this place as well. We accumulate different and conflicting energies in our bodies which become the seeds to our illnesses and dis-ease.The energy that creates the composition of our aura is affected by our thoughts, actions and words. There are other factors that play into that health of the bodies such as the people we surround ourselves with, the things we eat, the amount of sleep we get and even the clothing that we wear.
Reiki works to reverse, neutralize and transform ill effects which have worked their way into our beings. Whether we are experiencing disharmony in our body, mind or spirit, the Reiki will know where to go… you don’t even have to be conscious of it for it to work. Reiki has an intelligence of its own. The great thing about Reiki is that it is attracted to the places that is in need of healing and works accordingly.

I woke up not having much sleep. It’s hard sometimes at night to actually fall asleep even if my body and mind are tired because so many things start going through my head. I’m one of those people who constantly thinks about everything and when its time for bed… that’s when my mind decided to work the hardest.
Today I pulled a few cards for insight into the day and the energy around me and what I turned over was very interesting. First card that I had was the Ace of Hearts; those aces are relentless in following me these days. Following that card the 9 of Clubs and then the King of Spades.
The ace of hearts is a powerful card because it speaks of change and new beginnings. Aces are always cards that remind us of the powerful energy of whichever suit it resides in. This is a card that speaks to me about connections with people, relationships are changing and facets of my life with others will begin to die away. This card brings with it a storm of emotions that beg me to take a crucial look at my life and to see what or whom is really necessary for me to be happy.
The 9 of spades represent challenges and the search of truth. It’s the card of the seeker or someone who should start to seek a little more. I can see this card as a sign that I am standing at the edge of something, the door to a brilliant castle… wonders and possibilities waiting, if only I would knock. The 9 of spades highlights my apprehension to change and the things that lie in front of me. Though I am constantly enthusiastic about bringing new energy into my life, I tend to be a little resistant to it at fist.
I am very drawn to this card; very fascinated by the profound truth it holds. I keep hearing the words resistance and denial as I look at it. The closer I look, the deeper I feel, the more I realize that this card isn’t so much about inviting new energy into my life… its more about saying goodbye to the old and worn out.
The third card in this reading was the King of Spades. A fierce energy that has made it his purpose to abolish opposing forces. The King of spades stands as a guardian silently watching me, with a demeanor that chills to the bone and bites like fire. I know that he has come into my life to protect and cast away the things that have worked to block me and weigh me down.
It is interesting to me because the King of Spades is a very forceful energy at times, yet his focus makes him seem almost gentle. His force isn’t the type of egocentric and dominating energy that makes you feel small and worthless… it’s a mighty energy that makes you feel as if you are in the arms of a great protector whom will defend you regardless of fame or glory.
After my restless night last night, I realize that I am in the process of a great and awesome shift of thinking. I am learning to be in synch with my intuitive self and the Universe. I think I am restless because I know that deep inside I need to shake clean my spirit and allow my truest self to emerge. No more pretenses, no more holding back, only pure, raw and uninhibited living!

I have lately taken the time to really focus on what I am putting my energy into, what I am intending into my reality and I have been making an effort to align myself with spirit daily. The more connected I begin to feel the more spiritually cleansed and empowered I am. The expression, “Prayer is the act of asking spirit and meditation is the act of listening” has really held true for me.
I have always known that our thoughts and beliefs shape our reality. Not only do they shape the experiences we have in our daily lives, but also they shape our health. Each issue that we have in our body is a reflection of the things that we are holding in our spirit as the truth.
Working with people doing readings and working on my on health physically, mentally and spiritual has opened my eyes to many things about the nature of energy, intention and manifestation. I am baffled by how interconnected all of these things are. From this I have concluded a truth that everything is connected in one big ring, nothing is separate.
It all begins with energy; the energy of your words, your actions, you feelings, beliefs and fears. Whatever you allow to enter into your awareness on a daily bases becomes the commands that our psyche follows and whatever the psyche internalizes becomes the fabric of our reality. Whatever you energetically hold as the truth intricately weaves into existence the life that you now know.
It is interesting because you will find that this process begins in the mind and the emotions. We start to develop psychological patterns, many of which begin at a very young age (from the time you are born until you are around 5 is the key time of internalizing patterns). It is these psychological patterns that begin to weave into our energy field.
If you hold limiting and negative psychological patterns as your truth, then your health is sure to suffer. I know that I have had many experiences where this has held true. One of the most revealing was a few years ago after sustaining severe emotional and physically trauma.
That was a time of twilight for me because I was dealing with so many things at one time. I had to not only focus on my emotional health, but physically my body needed to heal and regain its strength. I worked hard to cycle out emotional debris of pain, hurt and fear. At one point I found myself covered in large inflamed bumps that ran from my spine around my side. They were extremely painful and appeared over night. I saw a doctor and discovered that I had shingles. I instantly knew that this was a physical response from my psyche trying to ride itself of toxins. The negative energy that had built within me literally bubbled to the surface.
Whenever you develop an illness, disease or any sort of physical trauma you need to instantly ask yourself, “What have I allowed into my mind and spirit?” It is when we internalize a mental/emotional pattern that it becomes part of our psyche/spirit and starts to affect the body and on a larger scale.
Your life and health is the manifestation of all the things that you hold as your personal truths. This means that you are the one in control, even if you may not feel that way. You just have to realize how much power you have and work to undo what can be a lifetime of negative manifestation.
The first step is to realize what cords your have created. Energetic cords are the things that we energetically attach ourselves to. They are the results of psychological patterns. For example: If you tend to have negative relationships, a cord has developed between you and your dysfunctional partner; which has allowed them to take your energy and in some cases you to take theirs.
This means that the underlying pattern is that you may feel unloved. Maybe you have accepted into your psyche the “truth” that you will never find someone who accepts you. In turn you may have recently developed a heart issue.
So in order to clear your life of negative lovers and your body of a broken heart, you must change the belief that you have internalized. There is an esoteric law that says, “When one thing is moved in time and space, another thing must fill its place.” So if you are to dissolve the belief that you are “unlovable”, you must then adopt a new truth.
Once you have worked with yourself, very patiently, you can rearrange your beliefs and recreate your life. This process of healing starts with a few things. The two most important that I have found are forgiveness and gratitude.
Forgiveness allows you to cut the energetic cords that may exist between you and the limiting beliefs that have over taken your life so that you can regain your power and consciously manifest. I worked extensively on forgiveness when I was healing. When the negative energy that I had taken into my spirit bubbled to the surface, I had to forgive myself for letting such negative energy into my life, and forgive the people that I thought were suppose to love me and protect me for not being able to live up to the roles that I had assigned them.
By forgiving I no longer had any expectations for others or myself that would allow guilt to build. I was able to internalize the truth that people do the best they can at any given time.
Gratitude comes after forgiveness. Gratitude is like the sunshine to the seed. If you shine your light of gratitude onto the things that you have manifested into your life then you will begin to get more of what you have. Your prosperity, health and love will all multiply.
You must be honest, patient and willing to change in order for these things to work.If you are interested in actively manifesting the life you want then I suggest keeping a journal and asking yourself these questions:
What in your life has been bothering you?
What has really been eating at you, occupying your daily thoughts?
What problems continually reoccur in your life?
What chronic health problems do you have?
Who in your life really bothers you?
What do you dislike about yourself?
Remember that people, illnesses and events are all mirrors to the things that we have accepted as our truths and internalized into our spirits. If something is chronic in your life, whether it is a person, an illness or a problem that reoccurs you have not taken the time to ask what it represents.
Some things are simple to understand. A heart problem can be that you’ve cut yourself off from love because you feel you don’t deserve it. You may never be content at your job because you are not fulfilling your desires to be creative, because you believe that you have to work “hard” to make money. Look at your life closely from a place of love, with a desire to heal and see what doesn’t feel “right”. That’s where you must start the change.
The counter question to the above questions is:
If whatever reoccurring things in your life were a metaphor for something, what would it mean to you?
Be very honest with yourself. It’s only with honestly that you can heal. By understanding the symbolic language of what is manifesting in your life you can find the truth that you have internalized and change it, so that you may manifest the life you want.
Affirm daily, “I am empowered by my personal truths. I am the master of my reality. I consciously create the life that I want with love and gratitude.”

Cards, tarot and other oracle decks are wonderful tools of focus and intentions and they can be utilized as a powerful tool of manifestation. They can become a wonderful way of “mapping” out what you want to come in the future.
The cards are a great tool for manifestation because they give you a way to visualize the things that you are trying to bring into your life. The cards are at their simplest level pictures with meanings. By selecting the pictures that mean what you wish to bring into your life, you can start to truly map out your goals.
The concept of mapping out goals with the cards is an extremely powerful method that can help you to attain your dreams and manifest whatever it is that you are seeking in life. The cards are pure forms of concentrated energy and their purpose is to link up with intentions. These can be intentions that have already been laid forth, or the cards can serve as foundation stones for new goals.
The game of Mapping with the cards is basically creating, destroying, affirming and shifting energy patterns. The most essential spiritual tool that we are all here to learn is conscience manifestation and that is exactly what this method of using the cards will do.
I have found two ways of doing this.
Begin by laying out the cards in your spread of choice, allowing the cards to fall in whatever way they wish. Interpret them looking at the meanings based on the placement and interpretation.
Now go back and look at the cards and their placement. Look at what each card means. Is it a something from the past, present or future? And is it something favorable? Do the cards that you have reflect your idea of what you want your life to be like?
If you want something to be different, then go through the deck and look through each card and find cards that speak to you… now lay them over top of the cards that you wish to “Re-route”… you are trying to create a new path on the map of your life. In essence you are sending a different energy into that specific place in your life, thus manifesting something different.
Now this isn’t only reserved to the future, that’s why you look at the past and the present in this exercise too… because you can change the energy that is associated with a past situation and a present one, even if you can’t change the events themselves.
The second process you can do is chose your favorite layout and instead of asking the cards a question and then laying them out you go through the deck and hand pick each card for their placement in the spread. In this way you are actually creating the map from beginning to end.
This idea of Mapping out your destiny is a form of conscience manifestation. I am constantly urging my clients to believe in their own personal power and their ability to manifest. Manifestation starts by changing your thoughts, beliefs and feelings and knowing that you alone have the power to pull into your life the things that you want and need.
The Spread: Hermes Map (Please Click this link to see the PDF of the spread layout)
I have created a spread that will help you in this journey. I have titled this spread, Hermes Map, because Hermes is the god of travel and the messenger to the gods. With this spread you will be laying out intention and giving it to the universe, thus creating a shift that allows the universe to tailor itself to your desires.
I have modeled the spreads layout after the Caput Daconis (The head of the dragon) geomancy figure because this is figure represents positive energy moving and shifting in the direction of something new.
Card One: The Spirit
This card is the essence of your goal. It represents the heart of the matter, the true energy behind what you are trying to pull toward you. Part of manifesting is understanding what gives life to something. For example: if you are trying to manifest a new home then you are in essence trying to manifest security or something along those lines.
This card should be at the heart of your goal. Strip down your desire and find out what it really is. You may even revise your goal based on this. If you are seeking $600 by Wednesday, you might actually be seeking security and not just money. This card takes some thought!
Card Two: The Keeper
This card is the energy that sees the goal through. You are asking this cards energy to keep your goal on target. You need to adapt the identity of this card as you are seeing your goal come to life.
Again you must get to the heart of the goal. If you were trying to manifest a new job your guardian may be “gratitude”, because as you see your goal of gaining a new job, you are trying to learn to be grateful for what you have.
Card Three: The Trickster
This card is about revealing your fears and insecurities behind the goal. If you want to manifest a desire successfully you must learn to be honest with yourself. Keeping negative energies locked away that may sabotage your goal is unwise to this process. You want to get the trickster energies out now so that you can move forward effortlessly.
Ask yourself, “What limiting feelings do I have about this goal? How might I sabotage this? Why can’t this possibly work?” This card is the negative nasty energies that we don’t want to face, but we know exist.
Once you’ve picked this card… Look at it for a second and then affirm that it no longer has power over you. Turn this card face down because it no longer exists in your map of manifestation. You have passed its tricky riddle and you are free to move along your path.
Card Four: The Reflection
The reflection card is basically your image of yourself after the goal has been attained. How will you feel once you have seen your goal come to life? Chose a card that really speaks to the Spirit and the Guardian and that takes back its power from the Trickster.
Card Five: The Treasure
The Treasure at the end of the map is the goal itself. You have followed the map, starting with your intention, holding the hand of your keeper and snuffing out the flame of the trickster… you have seen your reflection as you happen upon this beauty.
The Treasure is truly the manifestation of your goal. You have traveled the path keeping in mind and heart the true essence of this treasure. You have been guided by the Keeper and The Trickster, realizing the reality of your goal along the way and now you have it firmly in your hand.
This card is the manifestation of your goal. This card is your goal. So pick a card that shows your goal specifically!
Once you have laid out all of your cards, be with each one for a second time and focus on their faces. See their truth, beauty and power and take them into your being. You have laid out the map, now you are breathing life into it.
Affirm as you travel through each card that your goal is coming to life. And remember that true affirmations are in the present and you do not use the word “no” or “Not”, you would never affirm, “I no longer feel bad!” you would actually affirm, “I now feel wonderful!”
To affirm the energies of your map, ask for your personal guides and guardians to come in. Pray, write your goal on a piece of paper if you wish and tuck it away somewhere special. Light a candle. You could leave your cards out with the candle. You could even sleep with the cards under your pillow until the goal comes to pass.
The possibilities of the Hermes Map spread are endless… just have fun and add to or take away whatever you like. You may wish to change the layout of the cards to fit with another figure of geomancy. You may wish to add a new piece to the map, such as a card for the timing of your goal!
If any of you are interested in this method of manifestation and need help in the process understanding what cards to pick or how the layout works I would be more than happy to help you. We could even incorporate this in your reading. Let me know if you need any help at all.
