How Children See into Other Realms, by Melissa Leath

 

Janet told me that she used to have “floating people” in her room. She was too young to know that adults refer to them as spirits or ghosts.

Some children see strange things, like orbs of light or sparkles, possibly auras or rainbow streaks of energy. Others see spirit entities, such as angels, spirit guides, and the spirits of other people who have passed away. Quite often, these strange or different abilities can frighten the child when it happens. It is important to sooth their fears and help them understand that there are answers.

Why do children see entities that are invisible to the rest of us?

As we become adults, we develop a different perception of reality. As adults, we are programmed to discard certain images, noises, and feelings as unreal, especially if they are not scientifically proven or socially accepted. Many of us have programmed our intellect to doubt our intuition. Most children have not had the chance to train their perception to correspond with these adult versions.

Many parents teach their children at a very young age to block psychic images. Humans feel better when we all experience things in similar ways. They may tell their children that imaginary friends are not real, and that visions are just bad dreams. This sends a message to the child that they should mistrust what they actually experience, and instead rely on adult reality. It robs children of a sense of self-trust that they will definitely need to find their way in the world.

We all have telepathic abilities and use this as a method of communication to send messages even when we are not aware of doing so. You may think of an old friend that you haven’t connected with in years and in the next day or so you get an email or phone call from them. The two of you connected telepathically (which I like to call the Field of Synchronicity) and this mental “signal” brought about an urge to take action and connect physically.

But many children are experiencing much more than that. They may unconsciously move between both the psychic realms and the physical realms at the same time. They may even recognize parallel universes, alternate realities, and multiple dimensions all layered together at once. They may not be able to distinguish between our familiar third dimension and the many layers of “other worlds”. It becomes difficult to make sense of it all, or to even know that other people do not experience it the same way!

As a result, your child may see spirit beings or entities from other dimensions or realities right in front of their eyes, (not knowing that our “normal” vision doesn’t register this anomaly).

Imagine what it would be like if you were in your living room with your parents. But also your great grandmother (who died 10 years ago) was there, as well as several pets from spirit, and other people you never saw before (from a parallel universe) just walking around and being there at the same time. You might even see several outdoor scenes with mountains, waterfalls and meadows. There could be sheep or cows in the meadow, too. See what I mean?

This is not only challenging and confusing for children, but perhaps overwhelming in a more material world where psychic and spiritual phenomena are rarely acknowledged.

Meg was in bed and sobbing uncontrollably. She was scared because she saw my mother, who passed away last year. I obviously couldn’t see her, but I told her not to be scared. That she might there to protect her. But I am so very concerned…

Mediumistic Tendencies

Many children coming into the world now are coming with an acute sense of awareness: Not only about physical things, but about metaphysical things. By that, I mean the children are seeing with their spiritual eyes. They feel with their spiritual senses; they even hear with spiritual ears.

I know, for some of you it does not always make sense. But when you realize that humans are not only physical beings but have spirit and mind, you can understand that there are perceptions on those other levels too. The mind and the spirit also have awareness.

A medium works with spirit energy, or a lighter frequency than the earth plane, and connects with spirit, usually loved ones that have died, spirit guides and higher entities. Mediumship is being aware of the vibrations of spirit beings, and receiving messages from them. It is the communication of a deceased loved one through an intermediary. The information is then given to those who are grieving the loss. The main purpose is to provide recognition of continuing life after the physical death, and to send love and encouragement.

Other reasons spirit beings open communication with the living are to give evidential information only acknowledged by those still in the body. They create outward activities perceived by humans in a physical manner.

These activities are often recognized as paranormal activity. They manifest in physical form to be identified. Just because the child sees and communicates with spirits, does not mean he is a medium. It only means he has mediumistic tendencies. These abilities need to be honed, practiced and mentored, to be understood and used properly.

Many young children, who recognize spirits, see them all the time and can be very overwhelmed by it. Many professional mediums, on the other hand access the spirit world at specific times, on purpose. The child can learn to open and shut their abilities as needed.

There are many differences between parents who don’t really understand what is going on and their children who don’t know how to explain it. The more you can read about the subject and communicate with your children, the easier it is for all concerned. Always be supportive and let your children know you are there for them.

Open and Close Energy Exercise

  1. Sit quietly with your child and pay attention to your breathing.
  2. When you feel comfortable and relaxed, pretend there is a huge, bright star shining above your head.
  3. The star shines so brightly that you feel warm from the shine of it.
  4. Say out loud, “I am opening my energy to see, feel, or hear my spirit guides, angels, and loved ones.”
  5. Enjoy whatever communication you see, hear or feel.
  6. When you are finished, say out loud, “Thank you very much. I am now closing my energy. I do not want to see, hear or feel right now.”
  7. Finish your exercise by seeing the star shine getting smaller and closing up.

How Do You Handle This? 

Parents can feel all types of emotions from being paralyzed with fear, to being curious and supportive when their child reports seeing ghosts. If their children are scared by encounters with the spirit world, parents naturally fret about how to best help their kids through this fear. This may be a challenge since fear can be so intense that it causes the child – and sometimes the parent – to become physically sick from it.

If, on the other hand, the child feels open and comfortably connected to the world of ghosts or spirits, then parents may feel less apprehensive. Either way, parents are sure to be baffled about how to proceed.

The younger the child is, the more natural the response is to the phenomena. This is proof enough to me that it is real, since it is an honest response.

I have known and worked with other children who see, or hear, or feel things that are different from the normal physical things we are comfortable experiencing. Children do not see limitation. They see things of a spiritual-realm nature. It is natural and normal. It exists, whether we see with our physically limited eyes or not. Our children these days are coming into the world totally aware of the spirit realm. They see no limitation. We must be alright with that, because it shows how wonderfully our human race is evolving!

But as many kids as there are that have psychic experiences, each one will be different, with specific indications and characteristics. Each indication or characteristic may need a specialized approach depending on the child involved.

Each child is raised in a certain family, with genetic history, cultural and social backgrounds. So the approach to their experiences will be different. So it’s important not to compare your child’s experience with that of other children.

You are very blessed to have a child that is open and sharing with the things they see or witness.

Natural Foods, Empathic Child Challenges, and Picky Psychic Kids, by Melissa Leath

Being a young empathic, your child could be sensitive to many external things, besides other people’s energy. Examples could be loud noises or extreme light, clothing that rubs their skin in an irritating manner, pollen and other outside irritants such as weeds and flowers. Carpeting and flooring glue can cause problems too.

Being physically grounded and fully “in the body” are essential tools in dealing with these situations.

So what can help your child stay physically grounded? Food

More specifically, the best food for your child helps your child stay grounded to deal with these outside sensitivities. Since each child is different from their siblings and parents, there are no steadfast rules about what foods are better and what are worse. Each child has special needs. So it is important to learn more about the different types of natural foods, synthetic foods, and junk foods. This may take some experimentation.

Keeping life and health in simplistic balance is a natural way to prepare a child with special requirements. Monitor what your child is eating, by only having natural and organic foods at home. Let them be active in the planning and preparation of meals.

There has been so much research dealing with attention problems and hyperactive children. Do some of your own research and find out what works best for your child’s balance in energy. Some of their stress could be coming from food allergies such as food dyes, preservatives, and additives, as well as pesticides.

Consider some of these options:

  1. Some kids do better with all fresh vegetables and fruits instead of canned.
  2. Others do well with only raw foods
  3. Gluten free eating may be a way of clearing toxins from the body.
  4. Juicing fresh fruits and vegetables is a great way to get the nourishment needed and could be right for your child.
  5. The natural color of food may play a big role in what your child will or will not eat
  6. Meats and meat products (milk, cheeses, yogurts, etc.) can slow down the body’s metabolism. This may make your child sluggish, sleepy, or cranky.
  7. Proper food combining can keep the mind sharp and the body lively.

Picky Eater?

You may have a picky eater on your hands. I can relate to this, since I was a picky eater when I was young (still am to a certain degree even now as an adult). I always had trouble eating meat and certain vegetables. They always made me gag. I believe that the body speaks to us in wise ways that are sometimes misunderstood, especially with the young. And children who cannot or will not eat certain foods could be doing so because their bodies cannot handle them properly.

At the age of seven, I remember sitting at the dinner table for many hours after everyone else left me there. The rest of the family had eaten all their food, so they went outside for the evening. But I had not eaten the beef on my plate. (I usually could eat a few bites, by my father believed I should consume the whole portion.) So, I had to sit there until I ate it all.

After I thought my dad had gone outside, I stuck the piece of offending beef under the bone that was on my plate. I thought I had hidden it pretty well. But Dad came strolling into the kitchen, and pulled the meat out from under the bone, and said to me: “Now, there. Eat all of it.” Needless to say, tears and gagging followed. To this day, I have difficulty eating more than a few bites of meat.

It’s never a good idea to force your child to eat things when they are not feeling like it. Be sure to question your child to see if they feel compelled to eat because of emotions, or not to eat because they have an upset stomach (which might be empathic anxiety). It could be that your child just doesn’t need much food at this stage in growth. The best thing is to keep plenty of nourishing foods that they do like, so they can have the best available when they do feel like eating.

Staying Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water is always important for the body to function properly. Look into sugary soda drinks and decide what you will allow in your home. Many children become hyperactive and uncontrollable with too such sugar in their drinks.

Ideas to interest your child in participating in their own nourishment:

Grocery Shopping. If your child is older they may like to help with making the grocery list, and helping with the shopping. Be sure they consider the nutrition of the food item in question, and the way it could be combined with others for a meal.

Meal Ideas: Magnets for the fridge, blocks of felt on cloth board, or good old fashioned chalk and blackboard for meal ideas. They could cut out magazine photos or grocery ads with meal ideas.

Meal Planning: Older children, especially pre-teens and high school will feel involved as they plan one or two meals each week. And their desires are addressed.

Cooking: Help in cooking/preparing according to age and skill.

Tables: Set the dinner table with themes, color schemes, etc., that includes your child’s likes.

Growing Food: Planning and planting outside gardens and indoor containers of herbs, etc. This always helps a child accept foods that are good for them. And the gardening experience is the best way of “Earthing”, a form of grounding by working with the soil.

Family Meals: Eating together at least once a day will give your child a feeling of belonging. They will share in conversations of daily activities, and tend to eat better.

Make sure the whole family supports and participates in these healthy eating decisions. And always check in with your family medical professional before you make any changes.

After your intuitive child grows older, changes may need to be made to their nutrition list and the schedule of eating. Take your time and flow with it. This certainly is the journey that your family can lovingly address as time goes on. And your child will let you know when it is time to shift the food by the way he acts.

Kids Growing Up Psychic Series

Some smaller children see them during the daylight, even outside in the Sun. Others see them swirling in patterns, sometimes in different colors. Yet others see them only at night.

Spirits, angels, and guides show themselves to us all the time. But we don’t always recognize their presence. Adults especially have a difficult time seeing spirit energies. But the New Kids are so wide open that they see these energies easily.

Parents usually report confusion and fear concerning their young children seeing such things. The kids are usually seeing “sparkles” and orbs at the age of three or four, and it lasts at least several years. They view the experience as normal, and may not say anything special about it, thinking that everyone sees them.

The phenomenon gets stronger, and by the time they are eleven or so, it is very common to them. Older children, can be ridiculed, accused of making up the whole thing, and shy away from sharing the experiences. I have known some children that run and jump to try and catch the sparkles.

It may seem like a strange anomaly. But seeing Sparkles, Orbs, and other Spirit Lights is as normal as can be. But I imagine having your child describe something to you that you have never seen would be difficult to understand – and believe. Let me assure you, that if your child is seeing something very special – and natural.

What Does This Energy Look Like?

Sparkles can be seen by people as small flecks of dust, iridescent particles, flashes of light, blinking clear lights and something called “static,” such as the static or fuzz you might see on the television when the station has gone off the air.

Many have said they see them better at night, in the dark. While others (especially, smaller children), see them during the daylight, even outside in the Sun. Others see them swirling in patterns, sometimes in different colors. These people occasionally see black or dark sparkles, but not very often. Sometimes they spin around and blend together. Usually, it is seen with eyes closed as well as open.

Have You Ever Seen Fuzz and Particles?

After going back into my own childhood, I realized I have always seen sparkles. However, I would not have called them that. To me it was more like hazy fuzz. If I could describe it now, I would say it was the substance that matter is made of. It looks like manifesting energy to me.

Just What Is This? Lifting of the Veils

Now that the veils are lifting from our awareness, and the energies are opening up to other dimensions; we are able to recognize things so much more. The separation between the earthly realm and the spiritual realm is beginning to open up and blend. The thing is that the Sparkles (or energy fields) have always been there: just as the aura around a person is always there, but many people cannot see it. Only after they have been instructed as to what it is, and how to see it, do they really recognize it.

The way I understand, the particles that present themselves like Sparkles, Orbs and Spirit Lights are very visible. But it is not distinguished by the brain. It seems to be part of another dimension and not something that we are accustomed to seeing, so it does not register in the brain as being real. Only after you understand that it could be a possibility can you begin to identify it.

Another way to think about it is the spirits of those who have passed away are always around us. But we might not be able to see them. Sometimes, you can see movement out of the corner of your eye. You turn your head, trying to see it physically and it disappears. It works the same way with Sparkles.

Some children believe the Sparkles are angel lights. That could be. Also, there is a new resurgence of a phenomenon called “orbs”. They are large, round balls (at least larger than the sparkles) that float around, usually at night. Quite often they show up in photographs. They seem to represent spirit energies or entities of one kind or another and like to be around nature.

So the thought that Sparkles could be angel lights makes sense. However, I am given the information that the Sparkles are an element of energy that is “arranged” by angels in a manner that we can appreciate, and possibly connect with. So they are not really the angels, but are sent by the angels.

We All Have the Ability to Experience Sparkles

If you close your eyes very tightly and rub them with your hands, then open them, you see sparks of light. This is a natural affect due to the pressure of pushing on the eyeball. But with energetic or spirited Sparkles it works the other way around. You must lose your focus, or not wanting to focus on anything.

It works better when you are in your bedroom at night after you turn off the light. I usually close my eyes as soon as the light goes out, because when I was a child, I could see these particles moving around, forming designs. It scared me so badly that I learned to close my eyes to keep from seeing it.

Here is a great experiment to try:

  • After you get in the bed at night, turn out your light.
  • Lay in your bed with your eyes open.
  • After your eyes get accustomed to the darkness, everything will have a haze, or film covering it.
  • You might even see it moving around.

Yes, you might even think you are going crazy! But believe me, you are not. The more you play with this concept, the more you will experience.

Yes, I see a beautiful pattern and they are sacred geometrical shapes. Very intricate and even the smallest pattern within the large pattern is geometrical. When looking at the design from a large viewpoint, I see bigger shapes made from the smaller shapes. – Eleven year old.

Here is a list of the way some kids see these energies:

Sparkles

Orbs or Bubbles

Spirit Lights

Dancing Lights

Fuzzy blobs

Glitter

Flowing Colors

Floating Energy

What if you don’t want to see them?                                                                                                                                                                                                             

You and your child are always in control of the things you allow in your energy field. Ask your guardian angels and spiritual guides to help you with this. Tell them nicely that you don’t want to see the sparkles all the time. Then plan a special time that you could see them, only when you want to. Being empowered with this beautiful gift is important. After all, you are in charge of what you want to have around you. Also, if it just gets too much at a certain time (say, at bed time) ask the sparkle energies to stop showing themselves to you then. Be nice and polite, but firm.

In Conclusion

The purpose of this article is to give understanding that we all see things. Sometimes we don’t acknowledge them, or might ignore them. But our children are able to see many things and interact with them. It’s all fine. It is normal (not paranormal). Blessings.

Active Meditation for Kids: Creating Your Own Mandala, by Melissa Leath

Shaheen: Here is another beautiful article by Melissa Leath for the Kids Growing Up Psychic Series. This is really fun, and has my imagination running in so many directions! 

Psychic and empathic children can handle their gifts better if they know about meditation. But it does not always mean sitting still with eyes closed.

Meditation comes in many different modes. This time we will talk about Active Meditations. Anything that helps you stay focused and calm while doing something meaningful is Active Meditation. Making a Mandala is a perfect way to do that!

Mandalas have been used throughout time as a meditation tool. It is a piece of art that your child can create on a poster board, within a drawn circle.

Mandala means “circle” or “center”. The sacred circle can be seen everywhere in nature: galaxies, planets, flowers, etc. The energy of these powerful patterns is poured into Mandalas. They symbolize an aspect of nature and spirit. This energy can be used to help in the healing process, or transformation through meditation.

Making and meditating with mandalas can:

  • merge body, spirit and mind
  • uncover your own creativity
  • assist you in everyday life, making stress easier
  • calm the mind and body
  • be a healing tool for the soul

It is what I like to call an “active” meditation. By focusing on a special activity, you are constantly re-directing your attention on what you wish to do. By creating the mandala, your child will be spending time very focused in their project (the whole idea of meditation is centered on focus). It is made just for the child, with everything they enjoy looking at and feeling. All the pieces chosen will blend in the circle of the mandala in a way that means something to them. By taking symbols, colors and geometric forms of interest your child can create an instrument of transformation.

A few items you will need: old magazines or colorful ads and newspapers, construction paper and tissue paper in a variety of colors, poster board (20’’x20’’ is a great size), colorful fabrics and paints, copies of favorite photos, charms, flower petals, stick-on cutouts, safety scissors, glue sticks and double sided tape.

Make this into several projects.

You can make several focused projects out of Creating the Mandala. Take your time; (1) look around in nature; (2) scour yard sales, until you find the right things needed for the mandala, (3) spend time organizing the project in a special place.

Step One:

Decide what size you would like for the mandala. Prepare the poster board with a thin, light circle in the center of the board.

Step Two:

Choose a special picture or symbol for the center (focus) of the circle. It should be something that makes you smile: the sun, stars, something that connects you to the Creator or Divine Source. Tape or glue it to the center of the circle.

Your child will be attracted to special colors and geometric forms. When making a mandala, I prefer the circle to a square and will use it in different areas in my life. Also, I radiate towards purples, magentas and deep greens, instead of orange or red. We can be influenced by different colors and also use them in crafting a certain outcome.

Step Three:

After helping your child draw a large circle within the squared-off poster board, take pieces of colorful fabrics, papers or paints and create a backdrop on your board. This creates a foundation of the things you feel comfortable with or wish in your energy.

Blend them together, overlapping, if you wish, to mix them all together. Arrange them in a pleasing order. Add the different geometric forms to the poster, such as circles, triangles, paisley patterns, etc.

Your continued work with the project from the time you decide your symbols, colors and geometric forms, until you have finished, you will be imbuing it with your energy and start changing the frequency of your intentions.

After finishing your mandala you can use it to focus your thoughts on something you want in your life, such as love, peace, or joy. Or it could be used to heal something in your life.

How do you meditate with the mandala?

Here is how I’ve learned to do it:

  1. Place your mandala in front of you and relax.
  2. Focus on the center of the Mandala. Softly stare directly into it, blinking as little as possible.
  3. Breathe slowly in and out. After a little while you will notice a shift. The colors of the Mandala will become brighter or they may begin to move.
  4. Let yourself open to the energy that comes from the Mandala. Feel it flowing into you and through you. Do this for as long as it is comfortable.

After a while you will see the colors changing.

  1. Close your eyes. You can see the mandala with your inner vision (with your eyes closed.) Feel it as it changes. Part of the Mandala may become brighter and then fade.
  2. Imagine and feel the power and energy of the Mandala flowing through you. Feel as it calms you.

This is a special meditative activity and can be used anytime.

Feeling Safe and Empowered with Psychic Events, by Melissa Leath

We’re back!! Happy New Year… and get ready for lots of new information with the “Kids Growing Up Psychic” SeriesBlog Series.

“The sparkly lights never hurt me but they terrified me. I cried in fear, and screamed for my mom. My father called it my imagination and ignored it. Neither parent explained what was happening which made it scarier.”

Feeling Empowered

The best way to be empowered is to learn and understand about the thing that scares you. So we’ll talk about Energy, since that is what the world is made of.

Energy is simply energy. Energy is always energy. Energy can take the form of many different things: clouds, houses, people, Jell-O, even thought-forms. It also can be the way those in the spirit world show themselves to us: such as spirit lights and shadows.

Here is an example of how we sometimes view energy: If someone comes into your house, and you feel strange and uneasy around them, then you usually will say, “There’s something wrong with that person,” or “I get a bad feeling around him.” It depends on how we feel about the person as to whether we think it is good or bad. This is only a judgment. It is not how the energy is. It could be that the vibration of that person is just different from yours, and that is why you feel something. But it does not always mean that the person is bad.

The same thing can be said about other things in life, such as paranormal experiences. The reason I say that is because our younger children have a difficult time relating to us in words what they see or feel. Describing their experience is still very limited, and they have trouble finding the correct reference for the situation. So, if they have seen a scary movie, or ghost story, then they know the feeling of fear. It is a quickening, or tense feeling.

Even though what they are seeing is connected with angels or spirit guides, there is no reference to it. So the only thing they can refer to is the term “ghost.” And that might be what they say and believe. (Remember, ghosts in movies are usually scary!) Something that originally did not present itself as negative becomes scary. I see this happen in many situations.

Feeling safe

Now I want to talk about being empowered in these strange situations. In the physical world, we teach our children to be safe, and how they can protect themselves. For example: Your child might be at school playing on the playground with other kids. A man comes up and says scary things to the child. You have taught your child ahead of time to run away from them, and to say “Go away, stay away from me.”

The same is true when dealing with spirit energies or unusual vibrations of any kind. They may be positive spirits. But they may seem scary to your child.

Sometimes, children remember the scary movies and relate what they see to something negative. Then their imagination will create more of it. It is real to them. It is very common that the situation is confusing or misunderstood. And the child doesn’t really know how to react to it or describe it.

Talk to your child about being powerful, just like the scenario about the playground. Each person is “in charge” of what goes on around them. You have a say-so, whether you want to be around good energy or bad energy. Your child needs to know that they are empowered to be in charge of that. Even if they are good spirits, but your child is scared of it, or just doesn’t want it around them anymore, they have the power to do something about it.

What to say.

It is important to be positive and stay calm. Your child can say something like, “I don’t want to see you at night anymore. Go away now. Leave me alone.” They should say it very firmly, but in a nice way. If the child is too small, then the parent can help. But remember not to be aggressive or angry about it.

Through conversations with others, I have found that children sometimes out-grow seeing spirits. At least, they become less intense. I think it has to do with being involved with the worldly things of life. Other children embark on a wonderful connection and relationship with the spirit energies. This would be similar to conversations with angels or loved ones in spirit, which I consider normal.

About a year ago she complained that there was a little girl — she described her in detail — in her room, wanting to talk all the time. This was the first I saw of it really bothering her, but she is a pretty tough kid, and it didn’t take a long time for it to stop affecting her. She said she taught herself how to make it stop, and that’s good enough for me!

Difficulty sleeping at night

It is hard for some psychic or empathic children to sleep at night. Some of them are sensitively attuned to different types of ethereal sounds. It helps to try sleeping with the television or radio on, but with the sound level very low. This helps quite a bit: it creates a droning sound that masks the unnatural sounds, and gives the mind something else to listen to. Spirits are active at night, and the mind is very receptive after the day comes to a close.

Feeling energy drain

Being psychic can be energetically draining if you don’t know how to close up your energy field. Psychic and empathic children should learn protection techniques and intentions if they need to. They “pick up on” (or take on) other people’s energy and emotions. This can happen in the grocery, mall or at school.

Before going out in public, have them imagine themselves in a bubble surrounded by white light – it can filter the negative stuff, and help them feel safe. Taking on everyone else’s feelings can make them feel anxious, especially somewhere crowded like a department store. Many kids dislike going to places like shopping areas or large functions for this reason.

Be ready to recognize your child’s feelings

It is important to pay attention to what your children say. Take them seriously. Do not disregard what they relate because they are young. For instance, if they do not like someone or a specific situation, there is usually a good reason. They can sense someone’s energy and intention.

Let them know that they are in control of the things that affect them. They might feel they have no control over what they are experiencing. They can ask their angels or guides not to show them visions they cannot do anything about.

If your child reports seeing a ghost or spirit then validate the experience so they will continue to trust their intuition. There is nothing to fear. In fact, this event can provide the perfect opportunity to bring better understanding about the unseen realm and the concept of physical death and transition. You could research and read about it to learn more, together.

You and your family should agree if a spirit should leave and not come back. You can lovingly set boundaries with the spirit. Simply call on the angels of light and love to lead the spirit to a peaceful place in the afterlife where the soul development can continue.

I am now a 40 year old woman and mother, and my spiritual experiences have helped me to understand my own daughter. When she was very little she could see people or ghosts in her room. I was able to be understanding, consoling, and better equipped to help her comprehend, since I understand about seeing things others did not. 

Your children will feel very empowered and confident when you support them during psychic events. You do not have to believe that they are really happening. But it is important for you to acknowledge that your child believes it. A wonderful relationship can be forged with your children by working with them during these times.

Learn to Open and Close Your Psychic Door, by Melissa Leath

Most empathic and psychic children (and some adults) are constantly “open” to energy and spirit entities. This may include angels, spirits of those who have passed away, spirit guides, and experiencing the emotions of living people, places and conditions. Sometimes the kids do not know that the emotion they are feeling belongs to someone else.

This can make them very confused.

So, how does this happen, you might ask? Let’s see if we can get a better understanding of this by looking at Empathy, the Aura, and how to gain control of the situation – to open and close your psychic doorway.

Subtle Bodies and Empathic Psychic Kids          

First of all, if your child is able to see or hear spirits, or has healing hands, then more than likely, the child is highly empathic, too.

What is “being empathic”? Being empathic means to be hyper-sensitive to other people’s energies: such as, feeling sick to your stomach while being around someone with an intestinal upset; or feeling a headache when their mother has a migraine. Other sensations can be exhibited as excitability, unknown fears, anxiety while in a shopping mall or large department store, anger, over-zealous outbursts, etc. All these things are carried through the energy field (aura), and a highly empathic person can feel these emotions and sensations – children usually do not know that the feeling really belongs to another person.

To understand what being empathic is, and learn to control it (that is, to open and close energy), will make a world of difference to you and your child. Then all the other gifts will be under control too.

Just because you have a spiritual ability, does not mean it should control you. You should be in control of the gift. But as children are being born to us now, they are coming in totally open to the gifts without any instruction. In contrast, most of the baby-boomers (born around 1955 or before) who are psychic or mediumistic probably had to sit for development of their gifts. (Although, some psychics received their gifts as a result of near death experiences, high fevers, or sudden mental and physical shock.)

In our world now, the energies are so intense in the universe, and the times are so ripe for transformation, that our kids are coming into the world ready to do their spiritual work.

However, we as parents, guardians, and teachers have to step up to be their instructors – to help them understand how to maneuver in the third dimension, why it is important to handle themselves in society, and the most advantageous manner to use their gifts correctly.

What Subtle Bodies Are        

There are seven energetic layers around the physical body, which create the auric body system (aura). These are called Subtle Bodies.

There are three (3) lower subtle bodies that process energies dealing with the physical plane. And there are three (3) higher subtle bodies that deal with the spiritual plane, and process the high-level energies from the upper realms, or heavens.

There is one (1) middle subtle body, known as the astral, which is the bridge between the lower and higher bodies. It acts as a buffer and transitional point. Some believe this is the area that helps to ground the higher level energies into the body.

How the Subtle Bodies Work

Normally, the subtle bodies are close and tight along the body, as a form of protection, maintaining support and a separation from others. However, in a fully developed Spirit Medium, for example, the subtle bodies are loosely connected. But this is not the normal condition.

As the medium’s subtle bodies open through spiritual development, this allows complete exposure so that the spirit entity, or other energy can (with permission) temporarily communicate with the medium’s physical etheric body. This open state is one that potential mediums strive for, as a way to communicate with spirits. But it is a learned talent, and they are able to open and close at will, through practice.

I think of the subtle bodies looking like seven umbrellas opening up completely. While this process goes on, the medium surrenders some of their own personal etheric energy so the spirit entity can manifest in some way.

This surrender of personal energy, in itself, can be very draining to the person. If done on too many occasions, without time for recuperation in between, it can be physically disabling. It is thought that hyper-empaths could suffer from exhaustion and low immune systems as a result of this constant drain.

Four ways subtle bodies can be opened

  1. When being empathetic and compassionate in normal caring situations
  2. On purpose during unfoldment for spirit communication
  3. Being born wide open as with indigo/crystal children
  4. Through trauma, near death experiences, severely high fevers, shock, or fear (as with some chiller movies, etc.)

Usually, the medium knows how to close the subtle bodies, and spirit connection when finished. But the psychic children have no knowledge of this process. So they remain in what seems like the normal condition – open. When they are wide open, then other spirit energies can enter, and usually are lower vibrations that want to feed off a depressed or anxious energy. Sometimes the energies even create more anxiety.

The best way I have found to help anyone who is hyper empathic to gain control is to teach them the process as if they wanted to learn to be mediums. I take them through the learning process of unfoldment, mainly to help them understand that they should be in control of the empathy, or the psychic/spirit communication.

So, How Do Subtle Bodies Work with Empathic Kids?

Do you always feel badly when you are around a group of people? Do you seem to have physical symptoms that you didn’t think are yours? Do you have problems with depression, or mood swings? Then you could be empathic.

Many children these days are empathic in one way or another. They have the ability to feel other people’s emotions as their own: they literally feel what other people are feeling. They may be aware of it, but usually they don’t know that they have this ability, and subsequently feel like the misery is all their own!

As an example, let me share some information from Elise LeBeau. She is an empath and professional coach. Here is what she says: “I can sense the emotions of everyone around me, even my next door neighbors. It comes to me like a scrambled radio station where I get bits and pieces from all those people.” LeBeau has even classified different levels or types of empaths, which make it easy to understand.

  1. Non Empaths. These are people that have shut down their empath skills so completely that over time, they can completely lose their empath abilities. These could be children that feel such pain, that they close it down on purpose and become numb to emotions.
  2. Impaired Empaths. These people have managed to use very basic filters. But they can easily get overwhelmed. A crowded event or emotional turmoil of some kind can throw them over the edge. Sometimes they can experience emotional distress, such as feeling the weight of the world. Or they take on physical symptoms, such as exhaustion, headaches, or depression.
  3. Functional Empaths. People that are functional empaths are able to control the ability. They are aware of the flow of information, keep it under control, and are able to work comfortably with it.
  4. Trained (or Professional) Empaths. These people usually are able to use their abilities to interpret complex emotional information. They can access this information to assist clients in counseling or healing work.

You may find yourself or your child in one of these categories. When empaths take on the impact of stressful emotions, they may feel swallowed up by it. This can trigger panic attacks, depression, food, sex and drug binges. Not just emotional, but physical symptoms can emerge, including fatigue and exhaustion. But do not fear. There are ways to address the situation after you finally recognize what is going on.

When you recognize these feelings you can find ways to ground and center yourself. Here are a few practices to keep centered and in control:

  • Use quiet time to emotionally relax. Take regular small breaks during your day to stay calm. While you breathe in fresh air, stretch up high reaching for the sky and stand on your tip toes. Feel yourself in your own body.
  • Use mini-meditations. Close your eyes and focus on the sounds around you for one or two minutes. It keeps your energy centered and grounded so others’ emotions don’t get caught in your energy field.
  • Understand and honor your empathic needs. Know that you can say “no” to something without needing to make excuses. Honor your own feelings.
  • You can still hang out with friends if you want, but in small ways: Only be with a few friends at a time. Find quiet spaces to take a break if you need to.
  • Large crowds and big events can be very overwhelming. You can still be there at these events, but stay off to the side, and know when to take a break to breathe and relax. (Sometimes I use the restroom for that.)

Learning about Boundaries

Communicating with Spirits and Angels – Instill the knowledge in your child that they have control of what they witness. Your child may see spirits in the spirit realm, just moving around in the other realm. Communication then is not necessary. If some spirits know the child can see them, the spirits may try to communicate.

Just because you see ghosts does not mean you must interact with them. The child can tell the spirit that now is not a good time to communicate. But if the child wants to have some kind of communication (like with a grandparent, for example), it is good to set up a time to connect with the spirits.

Special Time To develop psychic and medium abilities, you must set aside a special time each day to open and connect with your guides, angels and teachers. This creates a positive environment to receive information that is always around you so you can understand what it feels like.

It is just as important to do the same thing if you are constantly bombarded with invading ghosts and spirits that will not leave you alone. You need to know how to close off the subtle bodies during the majority of your day, in order to deal with the regular world.

Also, the spirits around you need to learn when it is the right time to connect with you. So sitting at a special time every day to connect with them on your own terms is important.

Learn to Open the Umbrella (Your Subtle Bodies)

As you sit quietly, pay attention to your breathing.

Imagine that you are inside a giant umbrella that is all closed up. –just like a big umbrella on the beach or your patio table. This closed umbrella is a protective energy around your physical and spiritual body. It allows the “real you” to be safe and comfortable.

Say to your spirit guides that you are ready to open up and understand what information they may have for you.

Pay attention to your breathing and relax.

Now pretend this big umbrella opens up. As it opens, you become more aware of your ability to see and hear psychic things. You are able to communicate with your spirit guides. And you are able to feel the energy of others (like relatives that have passed away).

Notice the sensations that you feel, see or hear. You can also ask your guides to filter information that other spirits want to tell you. You might see this filter as a large fishing net or a special colorful blanket draped around you just for that purpose.

Set up an agreement with your guides that they only allow positive and uplifting information to be sent to you. Your spirit guides are only with you to help you and can be your mediator with other spirit people. And they only bring loving and supportive energy and thoughts to you.

If the spirits try to tell you to do things you are uncomfortable with, then they are not your spirit guides, and you should tell them to go away and stay away from you.

Close the Umbrella (Your Subtle Bodies)

When you feel like you are finished with this experience (2-3 minutes), pretend to close the big umbrella around you again. Know that when you close it, you will be totally shut off from outside energies and spirits. You may even like to make a special word or saying to go along with that, such as: “I’m locking the door now.” Or “Shields Up.”

Thank your guides for being with you, and say to them that now you are closing your energy.

Then get up and walk around to break the connection. Or you can drink some water and change your breathing. After doing this several times, you will start to recognize what it feels like to open and close your energy.

In Conclusion

Younger children and some adults are not only psychic, but might be empathic too. So gaining control of your psychic gifts and empathic sensitivities is a great thing to do. Now you can understand how to open and close your energy field as a very special technique to use. That way you are in a protected mode. By using your imagination, and pretending there is an umbrella around you to keep you safe, you will be more in control of your life. Your sensitivities will be filtered and you can practice your psychic gifts and work with your spirit guides.
