The Spider’s Medicine

As a creative there is a place that lies between worlds in which you go to tap into your spirit. This is the liminal space where light and shadow becomes one, where abstract ideas and inspiration become whole and tangible. As an artist you are a channel, bringing into life something that is beyond the everyday… whether it be words, sounds, visual or tangible art.

When traveling in the neither regions I often find the Spider to be a powerful guide. She is the weaver of words, the keeper of the alphabet and language. She spins gossamer thin strands into a strong and mighty tapestry that captivates, and even imprisons you.

The Spider is the patron of all artists, especially writers.

When the Spider visits you, you know you are about to embark on a powerful journey. She is the Queen of intrigue. She lures people in, ask them to stay for a while, and entices all their senses. She creeps in and out of your consciousness, and begs you to take a deeper look.

If you see spiders throughout your daily life… ask yourself, “What story must I begin to tell?” or “What idea must I weave into existence?”

The Spider asks you to pay attention. She advises you to let ideas simmer and incubate in the dark matter of your spirit, until the time is right. So be patient with your creative ventures. Be an observer. Notice what you notice. When the inspiration hits… it is time to act!

My personal spirit guide is a black cat named, Spooky. She slips in and out of my life. Giving me little signs. Sometimes they are warnings, and other times they are nudges to move forward. She always makes herself known, blessing and protecting me along my path.

A few years ago when I spent my winter in New York City she took on another life. I would have these very vivid dreams of Spooky. I would be in some random space, a little disoriented, but unafraid. And suddenly there she would be. Winding around my legs, stirring the energies in the room. And then suddenly she would transform herself into a huge jet black Tarantula.

The Tarantula would climb up my body; scurry around my back, and onto my shoulders. Then she would make her way to my scalp and rest on the crown of my head. Her energy was mysterious, daunting and very magnetic.

I knew the Tarantula was a friend. I knew she was blessing me and pushing me to take my art to another level. Spooky called her into my consciousness. Like a beam of light, she lit up the dark spaces. That winter was a powerful time of finding myself, as a person, as a spirit, and as an artist. I wrote differently after that. I drew differently. I approached things in a whole new way.
When I stray far from my gypsy soul… I see the Spider. She is another facet of the little, friendly black cat that blurs in and out of my awareness. When I see her I know a door is about to open, and idea is about to be born. I remind myself to pay attention.
The medicine of the Spider is so unique because it challenges our worldview and shakes things up. She truly is the guardian and guide of all creative efforts. Ask for her help. She is an amazing listener. She will give you the answers you need.

Appropriately enough, as I sit here writing this, I pick up a deck of cards and one randomly falls from it. The card that jumped out to say hello is the, “Throne of Spiders”. To me this is an invitation for all of you to step into her kingdom, to be knighted by her medicine.

Ways to Invite the Spider’s Medicine into Your Life:

  • Find a beautiful painting of a Spider. Leave it at your desk, altar, or some other place of power within your personal space. This will invite her spirit. When you are feeling stifled with writers block, or unsure what path to go down next with a project, just ask for her help.
  • Keep a small talisman of a Spider with you. This could be a spider totem carved from onyx, or wood. A medallion with her image embossed on it. Or even a small painted image that you carry on a necklace. This will allow you to digest the powerful energies she holds.
  • Light a black candle placed over an image of a Spider. This will be your lantern of creativity.
  • Weave a dream catcher from silver thread. Add a few black, dark blue, or green beads to it. Adorn it with images for the Spider, or something that captures your creativity. This will serve as a talisman that attracts abundant creative ideas!

Be creative! The Spider will connect with you in whatever way feels appropriate.

Trust your spirit.

Live Intentionally: Happy New Year 2015

The New Year is coming… be cheerful and celebrate! The Year is coming to an end, and as you say goodbye to 2014 let yourself discard old, worn-out energies, habits, and feelings. With the New Year you will invite a fresh perspective, and the motivation to begin again.

Transition into the New Year free of all negative energetic cords. Energetic cords are the links that have been created between you, and another person, place thing, or idea. This link creates a two-way line of energy allowing you to feed-off of, or giveaway your energy… and vice versa.

If these energetic cords are attached to something negative… you will feel drained, apathetic, depressed, and stagnant.

Let yourself have time for introspection to evaluate your energetic cords, and investments. Go on a journey to find what you are giving your energy to. What things have you invested in over the past year? Have your investments yielded positive results? Does your spirit feel nourished?

Take at least 15 mins to a half hour of time to meditate. Contemplate where your energy has been going through the last year. And then shift yourself into where you would like to invest that energy in 2015. What seed would you like to sew?

Get to the heart of these issues and call back you energy… so that you can consciously manifest what you want out of life!

As you make your list of New Years Resolutions, or the seeds you will sew, be very intent. Put your energy into things that really make you feel whole, authentic, and alive. Let your resolutions be bigger than just wishful things to muse on for the upcoming year… empower them as intentions, affirmations!

As you phrase your New Years “Intentions”, place them in the present because when you affirm something you want it to feel as real as possible. You want gear your mind to think as though the good is already taking place! Affirm like it is happening now!

Example: “I am organized, rested and optimistic.”

And never use the word “no” because no is completely canceled out by the subconscious mind.

So to affirm, “I have no issues.” Would really be “I have issues.”

Wishing you lots of luck, and a Happy New Year!

How to Manifest the Life You Want

Lately I have taken the time to focus on what I’m putting energy into, what I’m intending into my reality. I’ve made a conscious effort to align myself with spirit daily. The more connected I begin to feel the more spiritually … Continue reading

Long-Distance Readings

“You do readings over the phone?!”

“Yep, I sure do! And email!”

“How on earth does that work?”

It amuses me that people are baffled by phone and email readings! But at least they believe a reading can be done. That is a good first step. But why is it more believable that a reading can be done in person, but not long-distance?

I think people are quick to believe in an in-person reading because they can see it. They can see the cards, they can see your face, and they can touch something. They can respond and react with more than just their voice.

The disconnect is most people still don’t understand energy!

A reading is an energetic evaluation! When someone reads you, they are tapping into the energies that surround you. They are recounting your energetic story… the one that you are creating in your personal universe… which links up with the big Universe and makes things happen!

Even if a reader is using Tarot cards, or tealeaves, or palms, or runes… they are only tools. The tools are creating patterns based on energy, and the reader is interpreting those patterns.

And… energy has NO limitations. It isn’t bound by time and space. It doesn’t have to conform to gravity. Energy is anywhere and everywhere. A thought can be sent to the other side of the world instantly. A dream can bring two people together who have never met before. That is the magic of the unseen world!

So when you have a long distance reading… you may not be right there. But your energy is!

…so if you want a reading via phone or email… it will be just as magical as if you were sitting across from me 🙂

Forget the Crystal Ball! How Tarot Can Deepen Your Personal Insight

Today Brigit of Biddy Tarot is visiting! What a wonderful, and insightful treat. Brigit is the author of, Tarot Foundations: 31 Days to Read Tarot with Confidence and an extraordinary teacher. I hope you enjoy her contribution 🙂

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the words, “Tarot Card Reader”? Crystal balls? Gypsies? Psychic powers? Crushed velvet? 1800 numbers? All of the above?

Sure, that all exists, but it doesn’t have to be this way.

Many ‘normal’ people are using the Tarot cards on an everyday basis for self-development and personal insight. Crystal balls and crushed velvet don’t even come into the equation.

You want to know why you’re feeling ‘lost’? Why your relationship isn’t working like you want it to? How you can improve your work situation? How you can be the person you really want to be? All of these types of questions are perfect for the Tarot.

The Tarot has this innate power to be whatever you want it to be. In fact, Tarot can be used as a tool for:

  • Spiritual guidance
  • Understanding the present
  • Learning more about yourself
  • Exploring mythology and symbolism
  • Personal growth and development
  • Solving problems or dilemmas
  • Earning an income as a professional
  • Making important decisions
  • Validating a gut feeling
  • Daily or weekly guidance
  • Self-examination and psychoanalysis
  • Empowerment
  • Meditation and introspection
  • Developing your psychic abilities or intuition
  • Creative thinking

Using the Tarot for Self-Development and Personal Insight

One of the most powerful uses of the Tarot is for self-development and personal insight. This can be on a very deep level, such as using just the Major Arcana cards in a Tarot reading to understand your current life lessons and your inner purpose and meaning. Or it may be on a more day-to-day level as you figure out the solution to a current dilemma or problem.

To use the Tarot cards for personal insight, try some (or all) of these activities:

Draw a Card a Day

Draw one card at the start of the day asking, “What do I need to know about today?” Think about what this card is telling you – what events or situations to expect, what you can learn during the day, what you need to watch out for, where your best opportunities lie, etc. At the end of the day, reflect on how this card related to your actual experience and take note of what you have learned. Over time, you will form an even stronger personal connection with your cards and you will find that your cards offer you profound insight, even on a day-to-day basis.

Get to Know Yourself with the Major Arcana

If you’re feeling ‘lost’ or directionless, then exploring the Major Arcana in relation to yourself can be a very helpful way to rediscover your direction. Use the “Get to Know Yourself with the Major Arcana” questionnaire to ask yourself some of the more deeper questions about your life path. Or, work with each Major Arcana card, tapping into the life lessons that each has to share.

Use Simple One Card Readings

If you’re facing a dilemma or you need insight into a personal situation, use a simple one card reading to provide insight. First, clearly frame your question. Ask, “What do I need to know about….?” or “Where do my best options lie?” or “What do I need to take into account when making this decision?” Then, draw one card, and one card only. Go deep into that card by exploring the symbolism, elemental and numerological associations, and your intuitive feelings. Resist the temptation to draw ‘clarifier’ cards which often only serve to complicate the reading. And resist the urge to keep asking the same question in the hope of finding the answer you want. The key is to stay focused on the one question and the one card.

Meditate with the Tarot Cards

This final activity is incredibly powerful and will help you to build a very strong and personal connection with the cards. By relaxing your mind and taking yourself ‘into’ the card, you tap into your subconscious mind and explore the Universal energies associated with that card on a very deep level. Read more about how to meditate with the Tarot cards on my blog.

So, forget about the crystal ball, my friends! You don’t need it. Instead, draw on the Tarot cards to help you on an everyday basis to develop your personal insight and guide you on your path.

It’s the End of the World As We Know It

Today is the day that the world will spiral off into oblivion! All of us are going to crash and burn into the sun, and become particles of dust, forgotten in the Universe! NOT!! As romantic as all that sounds, it’s all made up! The world may end at some point, but it isn’t today. In fact, today marks a new beginning.

So now that I’ve disappointed you, let me give my 2 cents on what is happening. This is a time of energetic shifts and fluxuations. We are ending one phase of being and moving into another. For many this will be like shedding their old, worn-out skin and finding a little wiggle room. For the more hardheaded this is going to be a difficult time.

In essence the Universe is under going a metamorphosis, and we are a part of this big, booming change. Fire may not fall from the sky, but a strong surge of energy will eventually permeate everything. For the ones that are riding the waves of change this will seem subtle.

Much like the Death card in the Tarot, this isn’t a true death; it’s more a transformation that leads to an awakening. This is much needed and we’ve been moving toward it for some time. For those of you “New Agers”, you will be able to attest to the fact that in the past 10-20 years spirituality and positive thinking have become more mainstream than ever before imaginable. You can buy Wayne Dyer at Wal-Mart folks! That’s huge.

In the past 5 years I have noticed my clientele has become more and more diverse with a larger number of men coming to visit without hesitation. People are feeling the pull to be aware of their deeper self, to tap into the subtle and ephemeral.

To sum up The End of the World in a nutshell… it goes like this….

What you believe about yourself, and the world and how it all works will be magnified. So get this, if you think that you’re a victim, everything is bad, and nothing ever works out for you… I’m sorry to say, but things are going to get worse. We are moving into prime-time manifestation, baby! If you have dreams, dream them big because doors are going to swing wide open!

With that being said, this may not happen over night, but the change will be noticeable. So be ready, be willing and be happy 🙂

To your gypsy souls,

Shaheen
