How to Pray for Change and Psalm 23
The mystical power of prayer is everyone’s gift. Regardless of what religious background you draw from, prayer is an empowering approach to creating change in your life. Activating your innate power, and the energy of the Univesre you can shift your life to reflect are more balanced, empowered and wholesome state.
Prayer is nothing more than a focused intention. A request that stirs your inner light, and awakens the flow of Divine energy. Any empowered action is a prayer. You can call it prayer, ritual, ceremony, spell or intention. You are praying whenever you imbue action with intention and open your heart to receive.
For me prayer can be spontaneous and in the moment speaking out loud from the heart. Addressing the Divine spark that lives within and around you with grace, gratitude and willingness.
Some prayers are more elaborate. I use candles, crystals and botanicals to, not only activate my inner light, but move my body and mind into a mystical state. By using these tangible actions your intention becomes all encompassing; a visceral experiences that reaches into the soul.
You can use traditional prayers from whatever background feels significant to you. You can use song lyrics or poetry. You can write your own prayers. I love using affirmations… just are another type of prayer. Whatever opens your heart and soul to change!!
Open Yourself for Prayer
Prayer isn’t just making a requeste to the Unvierse. You are working to inspire change. To create an internal shift that works on the external. So begin your most sincere prayers with stillness. Allow your mind chatter to disapate, untangle and free yourself to listen.
When I allow myself to pray, and be open guidance comes quickly. It may be a vision of some actionable step. A profound thought. A feeling of release. Or most often… A series of synconcistic events that lead me to exactly what I called out for. Though it can be very different than what you expected!
Pray with feeling… Rather than focusing on an external thing to happen. Focus on the feeling you would like to cultivate. Fill your mind with all the things you wish to have manifest through your prayer. See it in living color and explicit detail…
How does that feel?
Then drop the daydream and hold onto the feeling. Let your prayers float on those beautiful feelings, and the Universe can do the rest!
Remember, stillness can come in so many forms. A formal meditation. A walk in nature (always healing). A long bath. Or a nap! Whatever nourishes your inner light.
Creating Ritual With Prayer
I have a mystical mind. My soul longs to dance in the ephemeral… Anything that inspires magic takes me to my deepest place. For that reason I work with many different tools, talismans, amulets and other power objects. This is my personal taste… But it is not law!
Before a prayer I will hold a fresh candle. White is a perfect color for any intention. I fill the candle with all the feelings, images and energy I can muster. Then I anoint the candle with a sweet scented oil. Rose geranium, lavender, lemongrass, or frankincense are wonderful choices.
Then I will repeat my verbal prayer or affirmation. Followed up lighting the candle and watching it burn for a few minutes. I suggest repeating your prayer 3 more times while the candle burns. Allow the candle to burnout, and know your prayer has been sent to the Universe.
If you cannot let the candle burn down, then you may snuff it and re-light the candle the following day. Use a tea light, chime candle, or even a birthday candle if you want it to burn quickly. Or you might try a jar candle that can burn for a series of days. 3, 7, 9 or 13 days is traditional… But do what is practical and feels right!
Allow Your Prayer Seeds to Take Root
Praying daily is a beautiful practice. But always pray with an open heart and the gentle knowing that you have been heard. And that you trust in your own divine light to guide you forward. If you meet prayer with desperation, or impatience you will squander the power of you beautiful intention before it can manifest. Like planting a seed, prayer needs time to find its roots… With mindful care.
A Prayer to Release Negativity
Here is a beautiful prayer I use often. Repeat it as you like. Daily, in times of need, or whenever feels nourishing for your soul.
“I release negative attachment into the infinite Univere…
To be recycled and regenerated into another form…
That honors and supports my highest good.
So shall it be.”
Burning a bundle of sage, or sacred incense while repeating this prayer adds an extra element.
The Serenity Prayer
Another beautiful prayer to release attachment, pain and heartache. Often used by those recovering from addiction, but this prayer is a powerful affirmation for any heart looking for serenity, peace and the strength to move forward.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change…
courage to change the things I can…
and wisdom to know the difference…
So Shall it be.
Blessing Yourself with Psalm 23
The Book of Psalms is filled with 150 illuminated songs for change, reflection, peace and healing. Used by many different traditions… These prayers are appropriate for anyone who feels a deep connection to these words. You may even wish to rewrite them to reflect language that is more affirmative, or reflective of your belief system.
Psalm 23 is often used as an all purpose prayer. Empower the words with your deepest intention. Working with psalm 23 can create big magic in all areas… Including love, money, and personal blessing. Many people use this psalm as a way of clearing their path, and awakening miracles in their lives.
Before praying Psalm 23 take time for stillness. Reflect on the change you wish to see in your life. Write a simple statement that highlights the positive outcome. Write it on a clean piece of paper.
Then soak in a warm bath of sea salt, or lemon juice to cleanse your aura. Continuing to focus on your intention.
Anoint a white candle with an appropriate oil. Place the candle in a safe holder ontop of your written intention. Light it and prayer the psalm. Feel yourself filled with gratitude, and the willingness to embrace change. Allow your Spirit Circle to be with you as a safety net to guide your prayers…
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures.
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul.
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil for thou art with me.
Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies.
Thou anointest my head with oil.
My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
So Shall it be.
Using Flordia Water in prayer is another beautiful way to amplify your intention and connect you to Divine energy. Flordia Water is a botanical cologne that has a citrusy smell that raises your vibration and calls on benevolant forces. Used by many spiritual workers!!
Prayer is a Personal Expression
I consider myself a spiritual nomad… My gypsy soul is filled with life, reverence and inspiration by many traditions. Whatever speaks to me… Has power. For some this may sound irreverent. But remember no one can tell you how to work with the divine, or how to touch your soul.
Growing up in a very spiritual atmosphere I found prayer in many different ways. My mother and I often light candles during the full moon. Tucked under the velvet sky, with nothing but moonlight, candles and our open hearts we pray. I also use Tarot for my prayers. Tarot has been a second language for me my whole life…
For some these traditional prayers, and psalms may not fit with your religious background. Again, let them be a template upon which you write your own version. There is no right way to speak to the Divine. You are magic. You have free reign to speak your prayers as you see fit!
Always have respect… But play it the way you feel it!
