People would fasten springs of angelica to the staff of a rounded broom and hang it in the main room of their home as a charm against negativity.
Another powerful form of protection was to lay the broom across the threshold of your home when you were away, as it created a barrier, which unwanted harm could not cross.
An old omen is that if a broom should fall unexpectedly company will arrive soon. Some traditions tell us to turn a broom upside down with the bristles facing up when we want a guest to leave.
You can do this and say a simple chant, like:
“As this broom is reversed, send (person’s name) on their way. Leave my home in peace and quiet. So shall it be.”
To cleanse a room of negative energy sweep from west to east. This moves negativity from the space leaving it spiritually sound. As you sweep visualize dark, sludgy energy being brushed away with the dirt. Seal the working by seeing the room filled with white light.
Another simple spell is to take a cinnamon broom that can be found at craft stores and pray over it asking for divine blessings of abundance and prosperity. Cinnamon is a very powerful spice for drawing abundance, money and blessings. Hang the broom on your front door or in your kitchen.
