Sensitive Bodies, Diet, and Living as an Empath

Do you battle with an upset stomach? IBS or other digestive issues? Are you sensitive to certain foods, such as gluten? Have you noticed an aversion to smoking, alcohol and even prescription drugs?

I bet you are one of the many people in an ever growing circle of empaths. Empaths are psychically open, and sensitive people who can pick up on the intentions and vibrations swirling around them. Imagine every thought, every feeling, every idea, every action that you encounter as a wave, a wave of sound, a wave of energy, a wave of psychic impression. When that energy is sent out, the empath naturally pick it up, and internalizes it!

No wonder empaths have sensitive systems. You process energy through your energy centers, and your energy centers are the subtle parts of your body. Everyone is telling an energetic story. Your energetic story is the accumulation of your thoughts, fears, ideas and beliefs about playing in the world. Sensitive people cannot discern between their energetic story, and the story of others. Meaning that as someone throws energy your way it feeds into your own microcosm, integrating into your system.

So why do empaths have sensitive bodies, and systems?

Well to start if you are an empath you struggle knowing when something is your feeling/thought/idea/etc, or someone else’s. On a deeper level you have a hard time knowing what is good for you, versus what is supposed to be good for you. Looking at health, diet and fitness we see that there is a constant stream, no a constant flood of information and insights about what is good for us vs. not. And on and on it goes. Fad diets, good fats and bad fats, allergic reactions, mysterious additives, etc.

To put it simply, empaths usually do things to their bodies, such as eating things, that really are not necessary. In some cases empaths eat, or “abuse” their bodies as a form of avoiding or distancing from these extreme feelings. Over the years I have learned that most people who are battling with weight are empaths, and they are ganging weight as a form of protection!

Taking it slow is a good rule of thumb! Especially with medications, vitamins, exercise and rich foods. A lot of times, less is more. Try things in increments. Maybe it is changing your diet bit by bit, rather than a dramatic departure. Or incorporating a supplement small dosages at a time.

Listen to your body. Listen to your system. See what works for you personally. Not what works for everyone else. And know that energy happens in the aura, and then makes its way into the body. Tuning into the subtle signs of your body, will clue you into the subtle energies blooming around you.

Empaths are Sensitive to Sound and 3 Tips for Coping

Empaths are sensitive to sound. If you are empathic you can confirm this. I know I often will become overwhelmed by a lot of noise, especially in a crowded place or when there are competing noises. This can be anything from a random noise, to music, to the tone of someones voice. Sounds shoot right through the empath, and can leave them soothed, or completely defeated.

Sound is vibration, and vibration is the frequency of energy. Empaths are sensitive to energy frequencies, and actually take them into their core. As sound moves through the empath it either competes, or flows with their personal vibration. If the sounds or noises are harsh, unappealing, or on a different “channel” than the empath then it can be extremely upsetting.

Turn your awareness to moments when noise, and sound have shaken you up, and knocked you off your center. What kind of noise was it? Was it a person? Music? Or just a random noise from the hustle and bustle of the day?

I have noticed that sounds from music will affect the empath on a deep level because music has an imbedded intention that the empath feels on an intimate level. If this intention isn’t a feel good one, then they will instantly take on that new intention, or emotion. If it is a person then maybe that person’s energy is opposing your own. Or they are burning off excess energy, and you are not in a state of taking on anything extra!

When you are having an adverse reaction to sounds it may come as anger, frustration, sadness, annoyance, depression, anxiety, and even surplus energy. Sound can even elicit a physical response, such as pain, soreness, weakness, and especially stomach problems.

So what can you do?

  1. Ground and center. You should ground and center daily, especially in situations where you are feeling knocked off kilter. Simply find your breath. Inhale, and exhale, finding a rhythm. Feel the ground beneath you, and the stacking of your bones sustaining you. Let yourself relax into the security of your body, your surroundings, your position on the earth. Now, begin rooting into the earth. Imaging a strong flash of light moving from your crown, down your spine, and through your legs, and feet into the earth. This flash of light is clearing energy, and rooting you deep into the earth. Affirm, verbally, or mentally, “I am solid, stable and whole. I am rooted deep in the earth, grounded in this moment, grounded in my spirit.”
  2. Cross your arms. Have you noticed you cross your arms when you are speaking to someone that makes you uncomfortable, intimidated, angry or overwhelmed? When you cross your arms, you are crossing your solar plexus, which is the energy center where you process intention and energy. When something intense is being sent your way, you can consciously cross your arms, and deflect whatever is being sent at you. Crossing your arms, thus protecting your solar plexus can help curb upset stomachs and poor digestion that the empath seems to experience often.
  3. Wear headphones and listen to uplifting music. If you are in an industry, or situation where you can wear headphones then you have a reprieve from whatever noises seem to be arousing your frustration. Listening to feel good sounds temporarily suspends the energy vibration being sent your way, and creates a type of personal sacred space. Doing this even for a few minutes throughout the day will give  you a good reset. It will fortify your personal shield. Make sure this is positive, uplifting music. Something ambient, and atmospheric. New age sounds. Nature sounds. Or classical music are all good options. Instrumentals, without any voices, or lyrics are a great option!
